Job Title

The VA Western New York Healthcare System at Buffalo is seeking a Full-Time Physician for its Primary Care department.

Job Description

The role involves providing direct patient care as part of an expanded healthcare team under the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model, and managing a patient panel, which may exceed standard size targets depending on service needs. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.

Duties

Duties for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Provide outpatient care for primary care patients, including routine scheduled and urgent visits.
  • Work within scope of clinical privileges unless emergency circumstances necessitate otherwise.
  • Prescribe medications within scope of practice.
  • Order diagnostic studies, including laboratory tests, x-rays, and electrocardiograms.
  • Review patient health needs and order appropriate health promotion and disease prevention measures.
  • Address clinical reminders as medically appropriate, maintaining quality of care.
  • Initiate and respond to consultations, special tests, and studies.
  • Provide education and counseling to patients and families regarding preventive care, medical conditions, and treatment plans.
  • Participate in team communications through daily huddles and electronic means.
  • Serve as a surrogate for absent providers, managing view alerts, secure messages, and other correspondence.
  • Manage view alert backlog to remain below 200 for a 1.0 FTE provider.
  • Complete patient forms and respond to communications in a timely manner.
  • Complete documentation within 48 hours of patient visit.
  • Complete chart reviews, respond to Congressional inquiries and other time-sensitive (suspense) items, and provide input on VA Tort Claims as requested.
  • Follow departmental and VHA policies regarding leave and attendance.
  • Protect sensitive and electronic files in accordance with the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws, federal regulations, VA statutes, and policies.
  • Safeguard data from unauthorized release, loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion.
  • Other duties as assigned.
