Position Overview We are seeking an Urgent Care Veterinarian for Berkeley Dog & Cat Hospital in Berkeley, California. The ideal candidate will be passionate about delivering high‑quality veterinary care and possess excellent communication skills to build lasting relationships with clients. The veterinarian will work alongside experienced veterinarians, technicians, and support staff, and will collaborate closely with the Hospital Manager and Regional Director. Key Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive patient examinations and medical work‑ups. Communicate and educate clients effectively. Perform diagnostic procedures and surgical interventions. Maintain accurate medical records. Prescribe medications and follow controlled substance protocols. Promote teamwork and staff efficiency. Collaborate with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectations. Evaluate and monitor protocols for daily hospital operations from intake to discharge. Monitor cases and attend daily rounds when possible to uphold the highest standards. Participate in practice management updates and training at all levels. Perform other duties as assigned by Management. Qualifications (Required) Veterinarian degree (DVM or VMD) from an accredited college or university. Current State Veterinary License. DEA registration maintained. Minimum 1 year of experience in a veterinary emergency practice. Strong diagnostic and clinical skills. Excellent surgical and dental skills. Ability to work well in a team‑oriented environment. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Commitment to providing compassionate, high‑quality veterinary care. Effective communication skills with both medical staff and clients. Ability to elicit information, establish rapport, and offer explanations to pet owners. Confidence and reassurance when handling stressed, ill or painful pets. Ability to perform moderate physical tasks, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Capacity to lift up to 50 pounds. Preferred Skills (Nice to Have) Advanced clinical knowledge in cardiovascular, respiratory, orthopedic, neurological, and other examinations. Problem‑solving skills for high‑quality hospital management. Effective communication of diagnostic and therapeutic options to clients and staff. Professionalism and constructive feedback within a veterinary team. Business acumen: understanding of the hospital’s management and finances. Understanding of ethical principles guiding patient care decisions. Commitment to continuing education and facilitation of learning for others. $175,000 – $200,000 USD.
