Public Outreach is growing our Northern Virginia fundraising team and looking for outgoing people who want meaningful work, reliable hourly pay, and skills they can take with them wherever they go. You’ll represent nonprofit organizations working on important humanitarian, environmental, and social justice causes. No fundraising experience is required. If you’re comfortable talking with people, like being active, and want work with a purpose, we’ll teach you the rest. What You’ll Actually Be Doing This is face-to-face fundraising - not an office job. You’ll work with a team in communities throughout Northern Virginia, speaking directly with members of the public about the nonprofit campaign you’re representing. Your goal is to have meaningful conversations, explain why the work matters, and invite people to support the organization by becoming monthly donors. A typical day can include: Starting conversations with people you’ve never met Learning about important nonprofit campaigns and causes Sharing stories and explaining why the issue matters Answering questions and building genuine connections Asking people directly to become recurring donors Working alongside a supportive fundraising team Receiving regular coaching and feedback Working toward clear individual and team goals Fair warning - this is definitely not a desk job. You’ll spend much of your shift walking, standing, working outdoors, and talking with people face-to-face. Some people will be excited to speak with you. Some won’t. You’ll hear “no” regularly. Strong fundraisers learn how to reset, adjust their approach, and keep going. Work That Has a Purpose Our nonprofit campaigns can change over time, but the issues you may talk about can include: Humanitarian aid Child poverty and support for vulnerable communities Disaster relief Human and civil rights Environmental issues Education and opportunity Other important nonprofit and advocacy work You don’t need previous nonprofit or activism experience. You do need to be comfortable learning about important issues, discussing them respectfully, and representing the campaign accurately. A Schedule You Can Actually Plan Around Our Northern Virginia team currently works Tuesday through Saturday , with shifts generally running from 12:30 PM to 8:00 PM . Full-time and part-time opportunities are available Full-time is preferred for people interested in longer-term growth and leadership Part-time team members must commit to at least 3 full 7.5-hour shifts per week You can work 3-5 shifts depending on your availability Shifts must be worked in full rather than as partial-day schedules This can work well for students, recent graduates, creatives, hospitality workers, and others looking for consistent hours without committing to a traditional Monday-Friday desk schedule. To be considered: You must currently live in Virginia You must plan to continue living in Virginia throughout your employment with this team You must be 18 or older You must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship You must be able to consistently work at least 3 full 7.5-hour shifts per week You must be comfortable working outdoors, walking, and standing for much of your shift You must be comfortable approaching and speaking with members of the public throughout the day You must be able to communicate confidently in English Applicants who currently live in Washington, DC or Maryland are not eligible for this position.
