Summary and relationship to the curriculum: All classified positions will strengthen the delivery of instruction to support the District mission. This position is responsible for performing a variety of tasks in the prevention of injuries at the aquatic facility including lifeguarding, water rescue, water tests, and safety procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Observe patrons and practice preventative lifeguarding by following and enforcing pool rules and regulations.
• Demonstrate proficiency in swimming and water rescue functions.
• Identify problems either visually or by auditory means in order to be alert to life saving needs.
• Perform water tests and record results as required.
• Maintain safe procedures and keep the facility clean at all times.
• Maintain surveillance in assigned areas until relieved or dismissed.
• Maintain familiarity with emergency action plan/rescue plans and safety equipment.
• Participate in training programs to increase skills and proficiency related to job assignments.
• Follows all federal and state laws, as well as Board policies.
• Performs other duties as requested.

Qualifications:

• Education and/or Experience: Valid and current Lifeguard Training Certification. Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required. Must pass lifeguard pre-employment skills test.
• Language Skills: Must have ability to read and comprehend job specific technical information, simple instructions, short correspondence, memos and position specific manuals. Must have ability to write correspondence and reports. Must have ability to effectively articulate and present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
• Mathematical Skills: Must have ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole number, common fractions, and decimals. Must have ability to conduct position related data analysis. Must have ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Reasoning Ability: Must be able to facilitate the problem solving processes. Must have ability to synthesize workable options from given facts, and assist in the development of workable solutions.
• Technical Ability: Must have considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office and other job specified technologies.
• Customer Service Skills: Must be able to interact effectively with colleagues, administrators, teachers, staff members, students using tactful yet effective skills. Must collaborate well with others and display a cooperative attitude. Must be service oriented and actively seek ways to assist others.

Professional Requirements: Must serve as a role model to students. Appropriate dress and grooming consistent with established standards required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, and lift. Occasionally, the employee must crouch or kneel. The employee must be able to exert or lift up to 50 pounds.

Travel to home sites, school sites, and other locations is required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently working in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
