Position Title: Bartender

Accountability: Bartender reports to the Retail Manager


Job Classification : Part-time, hourly, non-exempt

Compensation : $12 per hour plus tips

About: Catawba Riverkeeper is an environmental conservation non-profit with the mission to preserve, protect, and restore the waters of the Catawba-Wateree River Basin for all through education, advocacy, and engagement. Our 5,600 square mile river basin includes over 8,900 miles of waterways across 26 counties in North and South Carolina. We provide accurate, science-based information about our region's water source and the issues affecting it.

Position Summary: The Bartender serves as an integral member of the retail team and is primarily responsible for providing excellent visitor experience at our public facing engagement space and taproom, Confluence in Cramerton, NC. Bartenders perform opening and closing tasks, support the organization and cleanliness of Confluence, mix and pour alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, support hosted programs like live music, trivia and others as well as help with merchandise sales. An ideal candidate will have excellent people skills, the desire and ability to serve our guests, and excellent customer service skills to represent the organization in the highest form.


Responsibilities:

• Proudly serves the local community, serving as a brand ambassador, promoting awareness and advocacy for the Catawba Riverkeeper mission.
• Provides a welcoming, friendly, and inclusive experience for all guests at all times.
• Creatively and effectively prepares alcoholic and/or non-alcoholic beverages for bar patrons.
• Provides excellent customer service, assessing requests and preferences, and serving drinks.
• Helps guests with other products, such as merchandise, and with information regarding upcoming events.
• Provides quick and easy point-of-sale transactions for our guests and participants.
• Accurately reviews customers' identification to confirm legal drinking age.
• Proactively restocks and replenishes bar inventory and supplies as needed.
• Actively complies with all food and beverage regulations.
• Conducts all opening and closing procedures.
• Proudly maintains a professional work area, while ensuring a professional presentation to the public.
• Develops and maintains broad knowledge of the Catawba Riverkeeper to promote and provide information about the overall organization and public-facing efforts.
• Performs other duties needed to support staff and special events as needed to help advance organization goals.

Requirements

• Exhibit a passion for the mission of Catawba Riverkeeper
• Successfully pass a standard criminal background review
• 21 years of age
• Reliable and consistent transportation
• Must obtain and maintain the NC ABC Responsible Alcohol Seller/Server Certification
• Committed to a two to four-week schedule, with consistent attendance
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and some holidays
• - Normal operating hours, which are subject to change, are: Tuesday - Thursday 4:00 - 9:00pm, Friday & Saturday 12:00 - 10:00pm, Sunday 12:00 - 7:00pm
• Ability to lift/move 50 pounds
• Willing to serve all guests equally regardless of their race, color, religion, national origin, age, gender, marital status, disability, veteran status, genetic information, gender identity and/or sexual orientation

Education & Experience:

• Previous food and beverage experience
• Comfortable speaking to a wide range of people and customizing communication accordingly
• Ability to maintain an organized and detailed workflow with changing variables
• The ability to make quick decisions and remain calm in various situations
• Comfortable working autonomously as well as working in a team environment

Location: The Bartender will be based at Catawba Riverkeeper's main office at Confluence in Cramerton, NC. Travel to outreach events throughout the Catawba-Wateree 26-county region in North and South Carolina may also be necessary.
