Calendar And Compensation $127,980.63 - $157,680.40 annually (Certificated Management salary schedule, Range 5) 201 day calendar Master's and Doctoral supplements of $2,967.00 Generous health and welfare benefits, including several that require no employee contribution for full family coverage Job Summary Under supervision of the Director of Special Education, the Program Specialist will assist in the provision of quality special education services, will conduct staff professional development trainings and will coordinate, plan and implement special education programs. Principal Duties And Responsibilities Pupil Services Assists in the evaluation, assessment and placement of students into appropriate educational services, including inter‑district and intra‑SELPA, non‑public, state residential, and County Office of Education (COE) schools, as well as community agencies and programs. Monitors and evaluates the provision of programs and services; evaluates student progress and balances the rights of students and parents with the interests of districts and agencies. Possesses specific knowledge in the areas of autism, emotional disturbance, SLD, and post‑secondary transition process and practice. Provides technical assistance to administrators and teachers in instructional planning and modification of the regular education program to meet the needs of special needs students. Assists parents and students in understanding assessment and educational services. Assists in program placement, planning and evaluation for initial IEPs, annual/triennial IEPs and IEE requests. Assists in the hiring process of qualified special education staff. Staff Development Provides formal and informal services. Possesses knowledge of common core curriculum, assessment and instruction; learning styles and strategies. Designs and obtains staff development resources. Plans and implements mentoring (training) program for new special education teachers. Locates and obtains curricular resources. Rules and Regulations and Policies Interprets state and federal special education laws. Assists in the development of district policies and procedures. Participates in compliance reviews, mediations and due process hearings. Education And Experience Valid Special Education teaching credential and/or a clinical services, health services, or school psychologist authorization. Advanced training and related experience in the education of individuals with disabilities in public school settings. Education: Bachelor's degree, Master's degree or equivalent experience.
