Business Analyst, Academic Affairs-Student Success Wayne State University is searching for an experienced BusinessAnalyst, Academic Affairs-Student Success at its Detroit campuslocation. Essential functions (job duties): POSITION PURPOSE The Business Analyst provides comprehensive support to officeswithin the Division of Academic Affairs, with a primary focus onstudent success, support, and engagement functions. This positionmay also support the business and data analytics needs of otheroffices within the Division of Academic Affairs as needed. Reporting to the Operational Excellence department under theDivision of Digital Strategy and Operational Excellence (DSOE),this role is cross-functionally aligned to and works in closepartnership with the Division of Academic Affairs. The BusinessAnalyst collaborates closely with teams such as the Office ofStudent Success, Support, & Engagement; Computing &Information Technology (C&IT)-Enterprise Applications; Institutional Research & Data Analytics; DSOE ProjectManagement Office; and DSOE Change Management Office. Key responsibilities include process analysis and improvement,operational and ad hoc data reporting, and support for technologyconfiguration, administration, and maintenance of platformssupporting student success and related functions at the University. The position also addresses production support issues, coordinatessystem enhancements and upgrades, and manages cross-functionalprojects. This role requires robust analytical capabilities andeffective communication skills to engage with both technical andnon-technical stakeholders. Essential Functions (Essential functions are the primary duties/major jobresponsibilities that an employee must be able to perform, with orwithout reasonable accommodation. The essential functions arelisted in order of importance.) Analyze and evaluate current business processes, workflows,reports, and tools. Make recommendations for development,improvement, or simplification. Serve as the functional subject matter expert and primary systemadministrator of student success technologies. Performconfiguration tasks to satisfy requests from end users forenhancements and fixes. Identify, gather, and document business requirements from users andstakeholders. Track and document changes in functional requirementsand write detailed procedures that can be easily understood byusers. Work with DSOE staff to coordinate the design, testing, anddeployment of system enhancements, process automations, andintegrations between student success systems, the enterprise ERP(Ellucian Banner), and other systems. Create ad-hoc reports, data queries, standard reports, anddashboards to support business needs. Responsible for multiple projects or large complex projects withcross-functional teams. Serve as the primary liaison between the Office of Student Success,Support and Engagement, DSOE, and software vendors. In partnership with Office of Student Success, Support andEngagement, develop appropriate training materials to support enduser training. Other duties as assigned. Unique duties: Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Bachelor's degree Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university inbusiness, information technology or related field required. Experience: Intermediate (3 to 4 years job-relatedexperience) 1-3 years of experience as an application administrator or businessanalyst KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Communication: Excellent written, oral, presentation andinterpersonal communication skills. Ability to understand variousaudiences and effectively plan, organize, and present ideas andconcepts at all levels of the organization. Interpersonal Skills: Relates to people in an open, friendlyand acceptable manner. Effectively balances the interests and needsof own group with the broader organization. Resolves conflicts anddisagreements and builds consensus. Demonstrated ability to workeffectively with clients at all levels in the organization. Analytical Skills: Analyzes the impact of potential actions.Demonstrates the ability to apply analytical and logical thinkingto gather and analyze information. Capable of analyzing largevolumes of data and summarizing results. Proposes and evaluatesalternative solutions to achieve organizational goals. Demonstratedproficiency in basic business practices (e.g. budgeting,scheduling, monitoring work, etc.). Problem Solving Skills: Identifies and resolves problems ina timely manner. Anticipates the implications and consequences ofsituations and takes appropriate action to be prepared for possiblecontingencies. Leads groups in problem analysis and processimprovement initiatives. Ability to deal ambiguity andchange. Leaderships Skills: Demonstrates strong leadership skillsthat can influence and motivate individuals and groups to achieveresults. Ability to establish clear goals and direction for teamsor subordinates. Demonstrated ability to lead others in technicalfunctions typically acquired through several years of experience ina supervisory or project leadership role. Ability to demonstrateleadership relative to the University's mission, vision and valueswith a particular focus on diversity and inclusion.
