Utility Worker

Utility Worker (Multi-Skilled Construction Specialist) Department: Manufacturing Operations Location: VBC Berwick Modular Plant & Yard Reports To: Production Supervisor / Plant Manager Position Summary The Utility Worker is a highly skilled and versatile team member responsible for supporting all phases of modular construction throughout the manufacturing facility and yard operations. This position requires extensive knowledge of residential and modular construction practices and the ability to work effectively across multiple departments. The Utility Worker serves as a critical resource for maintaining production flow, supporting workforce needs, solving construction and quality issues, training employees, and ensuring high-quality workmanship throughout the facility. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Plant Operations • Perform and assist with framing, wall assembly, floor systems, ceiling systems, and roof construction. • Support rough and finish plumbing installations. • Support rough and finish electrical installations. • Install insulation, drywall, tape, spackle, and finishes. • Perform painting, sanding, flooring installation, trim work, cabinetry installation, and finish carpentry. • Install windows, doors, exterior sheathing, siding, and related components. • Read and interpret blueprints, production drawings, specifications, and work instructions. • Identify, troubleshoot, and correct quality concerns. • Assist departments in meeting daily production schedules and performance goals. Yard Operations • Prepare modules for shipment and transportation. • Install shortages, replacement materials, cabinets, doors, trim, and other finish items as required. • Perform module touch-ups, repairs, warranty work, and punch-list completion. • Support module setting, finishing, and site preparation activities. • Load, unload, and safely move materials and modules. • Secure modules and materials for transportation. • Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment as authorized. • Support finish plumbing, electrical, drywall, painting, and trim installation as needed in the yard. • Maintain organization, cleanliness, and material control throughout the yard and storage areas. Team Support & Leadership • Fill workforce gaps in any department as required. • Train and mentor employees on safe work practices, quality standards, and production procedures. • Assist supervisors with production challenges and troubleshooting. • Promote teamwork, communication, and a positive work environment. • Support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the plant and yard. • Serve as a role model for safety, quality, attendance, and productivity. Qualifications Required • Three (3) or more years of experience in residential, commercial, or modular construction. • Strong working knowledge of: o Framing o Drywall installation and finishing o Plumbing o Electrical o Painting and sanding o Flooring installation o Trim and finish carpentry o Window and door installation o Exterior sheathing and siding o Spackling and finishing o Yard and shipping operations • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings. • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities. • Excellent attendance, reliability, and work ethic. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Preferred • Modular construction experience. • Forklift certification. • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification. • Leadership, coaching, or training experience. Physical Requirements • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds. • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work overhead throughout the workday. • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and material-handling equipment.
