Grammar Music Teacher (K-2nd Grade), 30 Hours/Wk

Regents School of Austin

Job Description

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Fine Arts Teachers at Regents School of Austin inspire students to grow in their love for Christ and His created order through the study and practice of the visual and performing arts. Through a distinctly Classical, Christian approach, teachers cultivate students' ability to perceive and create beauty, develop artistic skill, and delight in truth, goodness, and beauty.

In this role, Fine Arts teachers instruct, disciple, and mentor students in alignment with the Objectives outlined in Article II, guiding them in artistic expression while fostering spiritual, intellectual, and relational growth. Fine Arts teachers also contribute to the broader school community through performances, exhibitions, and collaborative events that reflect the mission and excellence of Regents.

Teachers partner closely with parents and colleagues to prepare students for life beyond Regents—equipped to think critically, create thoughtfully, and serve faithfully.

PRINCIPLES FOR CONDUCTING WORK
  • Pursue full devotion to Christ and live a life that reflects joyful obedience to Him.

  • Model the fruits of the Spirit in communication, relationships, and daily work.

  • Demonstrate teachability, a positive attitude, and a willing heart for service.

  • Embody other-centered servant leadership in all interactions.

  • Prioritize important, mission-driven work rather than the merely urgent.

  • Maintain clear and gracious communication with students, colleagues, and parents.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead Self

  • Grow spiritually and intellectually as a follower of Jesus Christ, our Creator and Lord

  • Embrace lifelong learning and model a love of beauty, creativity, and excellence

  • Exhibit love, joy, peace, and spiritual maturity in all relationships

Lead Other Adults

  • Communicate promptly and clearly with parents and colleagues regarding student progress, performance, and expectations

  • Collaborate with Fine Arts colleagues and other faculty to support interdisciplinary learning and school-wide events

  • Approach conflict with humility and seek peace through understanding

Lead Students Before Class

  • Develop thoughtful lesson and unit plans that reflect a Classical, Christian understanding of the arts

  • Set clear artistic and behavioral expectations grounded in love and logic

  • Prepare materials, resources, and environments that support creative and disciplined work

  • Design procedures that promote order, excellence, and efficient use of instructional time

Lead Students During Class

  • Create a joyful, disciplined, and engaging environment that fosters both creativity and skill development

  • Inspire students to observe, create, perform, and respond to the arts with attentiveness and wonder

  • Teach foundational skills and techniques appropriate to the discipline (e.g., visual arts, music, theater, dance)

  • Encourage students to take appropriate creative risks while maintaining high standards of excellence

  • Maintain a neat, orderly, and inspiring classroom or studio environment

  • Uphold school rules consistently and graciously

Lead Students After Class

  • Evaluate student growth in both skill and understanding, providing meaningful feedback

  • Reflect on instructional effectiveness and seek opportunities for growth

  • Use assessment and observation to refine instruction and support student development

Program & Event Participation

  • Teach foundational and intermediate music skills, including rhythm, melody, music literacy, and ensemble performance.

  • Lead general music classes, choirs, or small ensembles appropriate for K-2 students.

  • Prepare students for school performances, assemblies, and community events.

  • Introduce students to a variety of musical genres, instruments, and basic music theory.

  • Collaborate with other Fine Arts teachers to integrate music into broader curriculum projects.

  • Support and participate in Fine Arts events, programs, and school-wide activities

  • Collaborate in the planning and execution of concerts, showcases, productions, or displays

  • Steward materials, equipment, and spaces with care and responsibility
