About the Role The Mechanical Systems Engineer will work on core product development for rotorcraft and complex systems, including avionics, batteries, mechanisms, structures, sensors, and payloads. The role requires high ownership and frequent collaboration with other core disciplines. The ideal candidate is practical, hands‑on, and a self‑starter. What You’ll Do Own and drive mechanical systems and platform development, overseeing the process from initial concept to low‑rate production. Lead technical efforts to define requirements, propose solutions, and establish methodology for evaluating and verifying mechanical systems. Work in close partnership with electrical, software, and mechanical disciplines to ensure a reliable, flexible, and cost‑effective system. Spearhead design reviews, conduct analysis, visit vendors, prototype, and implement hardware test plans. Actively contribute to the enhancement of team tools, templates, processes, and standards. Cultivate a vibrant, positive, dedicated, high‑energy, educational, and enjoyable community environment. Balance operational needs across vehicle subsystems while optimizing for development speed, mass, manufacturability, and cost. Support critical hardware demonstrations with customers as needed. Travel to test sites and vendors as needed. Required Qualifications Experience in an immersive technical project (collegiate project teams or professional settings). A minimum of 5+ years of experience in a professional technical engineering position (non‑internship). Proven CAD skills (any platform, NX preferred) and ability to produce high‑quality engineering drawings that comply with common industry standards. Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals in structures, fluids, thermal, and mechanisms. MATLAB/Simulink/Simscape experience. Manufacturing knowledge and experience with machine shops (sheet metal, CNC, etc.). Rapid prototyping background (structures/electronics/software) & 3D printing knowledge. Proficient in hands‑on prototyping (machining, shop tools, welding, soldering). BS or MS in mechanical engineering, or equivalent work experience. Demonstrated hands‑on fabrication skills. Ability to travel 25% with potential surges above 25%. Eligibility to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance. Preferred Qualifications Experience in NX/Teamcenter. Ability to integrate electronic components into mechanical designs (motors, controllers, sensors, etc.). Solid understanding and application of GD&T. Outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills. Familiarity with running a qualification campaign for flight hardware. Familiarity with designing for rugged environments. Knowledge of MIL‑STD‑461, MIL‑STD‑810G. Experience with electro‑mechanical and electrical design concepts. Experience with Formula SAE, Baja SAE, Design Build Fly. Salary $129,000 – $171,000 USD. The range is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only; actual offer may vary based on experience, education, and skills.
