Details Acute care, 38-bed Med/Surg unit at a Level 3 trauma facility Patient population includes older teens and adults with medical diagnoses (pneumonia, UTI, dehydration, influenza, alcohol withdrawal, respiratory virus) and surgical patients (ortho, general surgery, spinal surgery, urology) Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 for both day and night shifts, with the ability to take up to 6 patients High turnover unit where discharges often lead to new admissions 12-hour shifts with a mix of days and nights Weekend and holiday coverage required as needed Low census call/standby possible May float to IMCU for Med/Surg assignments Cardiac tech available 24/7 for telemetry monitoring, so RNs are not required to read their own strips 24/7 nursing supervisor support, plus charge nurse coverage on both day and night shifts CNA support available at a 1:8-1:10 ratio for accuchecks and vital signs 24/7 Respiratory Therapy support for trachs, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow equipment EPIC EMR used for charting No self-scheduling for travel RNs, though blocked scheduling can be accommodated at times Requirements Active RN license (NE or compact) required BLS certification (AHA or ARC) required CPI certification required Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg experience required EPIC documentation experience required Must be comfortable performing bedside shift report and taking a 1:6 patient ratio Experience titrating drips such as Heparin, and administering set-rate medications like Bumex and Lasix Should have experience with the specific shift type applied for (days vs nights) Additional Information Deliver direct patient care including bedside shift report and proactive patient rounding Collaborate with CNAs and unit staff, including assisting with call lights Navy blue scrub dress code required Unit-specific orientation consists of 1.5 shifts Must reside within a 45-mile radius of the facility Cancellation policy allows up to 3 shifts per 13-week assignment First-time travelers are welcome to apply American Traveler Job ID P-744829.
