POSITION SUMMARY

The Facilities Manager is responsible for the maintenance, operation, safety, and overall upkeep of school buildings, grounds, and equipment. This position combines hands-on maintenance responsibilities with leadership, project management, and oversight of facility operations. The Facilities Supervisor supervises facilities staff, manages contractors and vendors, coordinates maintenance and capital projects, and supports a safe, secure, and efficient learning environment. The Facilities Supervisor supports and advances the mission of Catholic education in the Mercy tradition.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform light mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, masonry, roofing, and general maintenance repairs.
• Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance of building systems and equipment.
• Manage facility projects from planning through completion, ensuring work is completed on time and within budget.
• Coordinate and oversee contractors, vendors, and service providers.
• Supervise, schedule, and support the Maintenance Mechanic.
• Prioritize and manage multiple maintenance requests, projects, and daily operational needs.
• Maintain facility records, maintenance logs, warranties, and project documentation.
• Assist the Director of Finance with facility budgets, capital planning, and facility improvement projects.
• Maintain inventory of supplies, tools, and equipment.
• Move furniture, equipment, and supplies using appropriate equipment, including lifts, forklifts, dollies, and hand trucks.
• Collaborate with the Safety Committee to maintain and improve building safety procedures.
• Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to facility emergencies as needed.
• Provide support for school events, security needs, deliveries, and other duties as assigned.
• Be available before and after regular work hours when operational needs are required.
• Participate in professional development and training related to facilities management and school operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of ten (10) years of related facilities, maintenance, or building operations experience.
• Experience supervising staff and managing contractors preferred.
• Experience managing facility projects, budgets, and schedules preferred.
• Valid drivers license with the ability to operate a pickup truck and passenger van.

Knowledge and Skills

• Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and masonry trades.
• HVAC experience preferred but not required.
• Experience with Building Control Systems (BCS); Johnson Controls Metasys experience preferred.
• Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair building systems and equipment.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, email, and internet applications.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.

Equipment Operation

Ability to safely use:

• Ladders and lifts (including Genie and scissor lifts)
• Forklifts
• Hand trucks and dollies
• Standard maintenance tools and equipment

Employment Requirements

• Successful completion of all required background checks and child abuse clearances.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The position regularly requires standing, walking, climbing, reaching, bending, kneeling, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling. The employee must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and move heavier items using proper equipment. Work may be performed indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to varying temperatures, weather conditions, and noise levels.
