Manager of Procedural Advanced Practice Providers- Cardiology

Summary Reports to the Director of Cardiovascular Service line at Rhode Island Hospital. Under the direction of the Division Directors of the Cardiovascular Institute and the Administrative Director, responsible for organization of clinical services, onboarding, training, and evaluation of Advanced Practice Providers. Creates a dyad relationship with the physician directors of Electrophysiology, Interventional Cardiology, and Structural Heart Programs. Key member of leadership team in conjunction with Program Managers and responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining subspecialty programs within the Cardiovascular Service Line, including electrophysiology and structural heart. Provides direct patient care with physician collaboration and demonstrates honesty, integrity, credibility, and vision to engage staff in achieving overall goals. Responsibilities Participate in, develop, and implement strategic objectives for Advanced Practice Providers to practice at the fullest capacity of their license. Spearhead initiatives to improve patient throughput, reduce inefficiencies, and improve quality of care. Collaborate on planning, direction, and operation of administrative and clinical aspects of subspecialty programs. Key role in program development, growth, and operations. Develop and implement business plans to support the organization’s goals and strategies. Continuously assess outpatient flow model to maximize physician and APP patient schedules; improve patient access to care and streamline access to electrophysiology procedures and Afib Clinic. Apply business and management expertise to set direction, measure results, resolve problems, and achieve operational and financial objectives. Serve on organizational committees and projects to share in decision‑making concerning delivery of care and operations of the clinical organization. Develop and implement professional development activities including onboarding, APP competencies, mentoring, and preceptor programs. Mentor direct reports to promote professional growth, job satisfaction, and clinical excellence. Participate in hiring of Advanced Practice Providers – review applications, select candidates, and participate in interviewing and final selection process. Provide direct leadership to inpatient and outpatient APPs – staff, schedule, coordinate staff meetings, provide clinical updates, reward and recognition, and collaborate with other APP teams. Complete and publish quality initiatives to support being regarded as a center of excellence and attract high‑quality applicants. Conduct annual performance evaluations for direct reports. Build dynamic relationships with administration, medical directors, physicians, device technicians, nursing and nursing leadership to establish an exemplary model of care. Generate and maintain statistical information relating to the APPs within the Cardiovascular Institute. Maintain established hospital/department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control. Provide support to ancillary staff including nurses, technicians, and medical assistants. Qualifications Basic Knowledge Graduate of either a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program. Nurse Practitioners must hold a Master’s Degree from an accredited program and be certified by ANCC or AANP with licensure in Rhode Island including prescriptive privileges. Physician Assistants must hold an M.S. from an accredited program, pass the NCCPA certifying examination, and be certified by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants. Both must possess Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification. Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns. Experience 2–5 years of cardiovascular care preferred. Prior supervisory experience desirable. Work Environment and Physical Requirements Healthcare environment such as acute‑care hospitals, physicians’ offices, and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Direct patient contact and use of medical equipment. Hazards minimized by adherence to safety procedures and protective equipment. Independent Action May provide evaluation and management services independently under NPI, consistent with regulations governing non‑physician provider billing, collections, hospital medical staff privileges, and payer credentialing. Consults with superior on matters requiring clarification or exception to hospital policy. Supervisory Responsibilities Provides direct supervision for Cardiovascular Institute APPs in inpatient and outpatient settings, approximately 12–15 providers.
