Registered Nurse (RN) - Inpatient Acute Care Rotating Schedule

Position Summary RN – Inpatient Acute Care Rotating Schedule. Variable (United States of America). Employment Type: Full time. Days worked: 6 weeks on days; 6 weeks on nights – rotating schedule. Block hours: 36 hrs/week. Compensation: Starting at $34/hr (eligible for increase based on experience); shift differentials and sign‑on bonuses available. Department Names – Inpatient Acute Care: 3N Spinal Cord Injury Unit, 3S Medically Complex Unit (Cardiac/Oncology), Pediatrics Unit, Intensive Medical Rehab Unit (Critical Care), 4 North Stroke, 4 South Brain Injury, 6th Floor Ortho Trauma/Amputee Unit. Primary location: Main Hospital – Grand Rapids, MI. Other Benefits: Annual Merit Increases, Health Insurance (Medical, Dental, Vision), PTO, Holiday Pay, PSLF Eligible, Tuition Reimbursement. About Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation is a nationally recognized leader in inpatient rehabilitation, providing hospital‑level care for patients with complex medical and neurological needs. We are currently hiring RNs for our Inpatient Acute Care Units, including Spinal Cord Injury (SCI), Medically Complex (Cardiac/Oncology), Pediatrics, Intensive Medical Rehab, 6th Floor Ortho Trauma/Amputee. These units provide intensive rehabilitation and hospital‑level nursing care, giving RNs the opportunity to manage high‑acuity patients, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, and make a meaningful impact on patient recovery and independence. Essential Job Responsibilities Staff will provide patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of their license, certification, or registration and as required by law and regulation. Quality Pillar of Excellence Quality Nursing Care – The Registered Nurse is responsible for all nursing care provided to patients at Mary Free Bed. Through careful assessment of each patient, interdisciplinary collaboration, and critical thinking, each RN develops and/or follows a patient‑centered plan of care that aligns with the priorities and plans developed by the attending physician and other disciplines. The RN coordinates care for non‑licensed staff through delegation and follow‑up, to assure that all care provided follows departmental policies and procedures. Quality Improvement Each RN will participate in performance improvement through identification of ways to improve care, reporting unexpected events or medical errors, and reporting “near misses”. RNs may assist in data collection and documentation audits to help nursing quality improvement measures. Patient Safety RNs promote safety for all patients by following applicable policies and procedures, contributing to safety initiatives, and reporting unexpected events or near misses without fear of reprisal. Threats to patient safety are communicated with the Nursing Leadership Team in a timely manner. Service Pillar of Excellence – Customer Service Each RN is required to demonstrate excellent customer service standards and behaviors while interacting with patients, family members, physicians, and colleagues. The Mary Free Bed Standards of Behavior outline expectations for performance in this area. Physician and Colleague Relationships RNs maintain effective working relationships with admitting and consulting physicians and other disciplines involved in patient care. People Pillar of Excellence – Employee Competency All RNs must perform within the policies, procedures, and standards of care set by the organization, demonstrating competency to meet regulatory and accreditation requirements. Professional Work Environment RNs encourage a culture of personal accountability, solution‑seeking behavior, mutual respect, open communication, and enthusiasm. Employee Safety Employees must follow all policies and procedures related to safety. When risks are identified, RNs communicate with Nursing Supervisors and maintain a safe work environment. Staff Selection, Development and Mentoring RNs assist with employee selection and orientation for new team members, provide constructive interview feedback, and serve as preceptors during clinical rotations. Financial Performance Pillar of Excellence – Fiscal Responsibility RNs follow departmental policies related to payroll practices, patient chargeable items, and provide high‑value nursing care at a reasonable price. Cost‑saving opportunities are shared with the Nursing Leadership Team. Essential Job Qualifications Licensure: Registered nurse in the state of Michigan. Education: Associate's degree in nursing is required; Bachelor’s degree preferred. Certification as a Registered Rehabilitation Nurse is preferred and encouraged. CRRN Requirement: All newly hired staff will be required to become a Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN) by their 3rd anniversary. Mary Free Bed will fund training and certification. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Previous experience as an RN, especially in rehabilitation or acute care, is preferred but not required. Strong critical thinking, decision‑making, delegation, leadership, time‑management, organizational, written and verbal communication skills are required. Physical Requirements: None (no specific requirements). Must be able to remain stationary, move around work location frequently, operate keyboard and equipment. Must be competent with computer systems for documenting patient care. Must understand and follow employee safety policies related to blood‑borne pathogens and hazardous materials.
