Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week night shift Med/Surg Tele assignment in Arizona, requiring telemetry strip interpretation skills and experience with surgical and neurological patient populations.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting on a 48-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit (4th Floor, units 4A and 4B)
• Patient population includes COVID, respiratory, GI, diabetics, telemetry, TIA, CVA, and general, orthopedic, and spinal surgical patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 with nurse aides available at a 1:10–15 ratio
• Telemetry is monitored remotely by tele techs on the 3rd floor; RNs are required to interpret and sign strips at least once per shift
• Diltiazem is administered at a set rate; RNs are not required to titrate drips
• Respiratory equipment in use includes BiPAP, CPAP, high flow oxygen, and breathing treatments
• Charting system is Cerner; prior Cerner experience is strongly recommended due to limited orientation time
• 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM–7:30 AM with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break
• Every other weekend required (2 weekends per 4-week schedule)
• First to float; may float to East Campus and possibly PCU if qualified
• No on-call or standby requirements

Requirements

• Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license currently in hand; pending licenses will not be accepted
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications will not be accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Experience reading and interpreting basic telemetry strips required
• Experience with general and orthopedic surgical patients, CVA, and TIA required
• Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) before an offer can be confirmed
• A driver's license is required for consideration
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Permanent residence must be at least 50 miles from the facility (verified by driver's license)

Additional Information

• Interpret and sign telemetry strips at least once per shift in collaboration with remote monitor techs
• Charge nurses do not take patient assignments; both a charge nurse and house supervisor are available for support
• Orientation consists of 1 shift (12 hours) on the unit; Cerner experience is strongly recommended given the limited orientation time
• A sterile technique skills test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes is administered on the first day of orientation
• Holiday coverage is expected for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's, with a typical expectation of 2 days and 1 evening (or 2 evenings and 1 day) across the holiday period
• Navy blue scrubs are required
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year; candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
• Self-scheduling is used; schedules are made 4 weeks out and are subject to manager balancing before finalization
