The Engineer II has a passion for tackling hard problems. A veteran who knows how to get things done and how-to future-proof our architecture and implementations to scale for years to come. This position plays a pivotal role in shaping the definition, vision, design, roadmap, and development of all systems at U.S. Xpress.Position Functions:· Design, implement, test, deploy and maintain innovative software solutions to transform service performance, durability, cost, and security.· Own the development lifecycle with a focus on developing new features and functionalities for assigned software applications.· Use software engineering best practices to ensure a high standard of quality for all of the team deliverables.· Write high quality distributed system software.· Work in an agile development environment, always working on the most important projects.· Collaborate with other teams and across departments to deliver new features and products.What We’re Looking For:Education· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science plus 3 years of relevant professional experience or Master’s degree in a related field plus 1 year of relevant professional experience requiredExperienceExperience with at least one modern programming language (Java, Python, JavaScript, Go or C#) and unit testingExperience in debugging in shell and AWSExperience with AWS services (IAM, S3, Dynamo)Previous experience in mentoring junior engineers or leading small tasks within a teamPrevious experience in creating technical documentation· Transportation, Logistics, and/or Tech industry experience a plusSkills & Abilities· Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail· Good communication skills with the ability to work effectively within a team· Owned simple applications or modules, ensuring the code is maintained using best practices· Created and maintained documentation for functions within the code to ensure clarity and maintainability· Familiarity with common debugging tools and techniques· Adept at assessing organizational dynamics and managing change· Works quickly and efficiently.
