Child Peer Support Specialist

In this role, you will use your own journey to support others, helping children and families navigate mental health challenges and build resilience. You will work closely with a supportive team, reporting to the Director of Operations and receiving guidance from the Support Specialist Supervisor, all while contributing to a compassionate and collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual peer support services to children and families within the community.
• Assist clients in developing treatment goals within the first 30 days of service.
• Support clients in restoring, rehabilitating, and developing social and interpersonal skills.
• Help clients identify, enhance, and establish support networks, increase community awareness, and develop coping strategies.
• Promote the development of daily living skills for clients.
• Assist clients in managing the negative effects of psychiatric or emotional symptoms.
• Help clients recognize and respond to triggers that may lead to functional impairments.
• Implement and update Peer Support Plans on an ongoing basis.
• Participate in collaborative meetings with Behavioral Health Services staff and other community supports as needed.
• Regularly communicate clients' status, including changes in mood, functioning, medical issues, and any crisis or health and safety concerns.
• Maintain accurate and effective clinical documentation for every client contact.
• Attend all required office trainings and regular clinical supervision sessions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Bilingual Spanish-speaking ability.
• Self-identify as a current or former consumer of mental health services, or as a first-degree family member of someone who has received such services.
• Demonstrate a minimum of 6 months in self-directed recovery within the last year (if applicable).
• Ability to use a computer interface to complete documentation for billing or other purposes as needed.
