General Manager

Our client, a well-established distributor of premium architectural and building products, is seeking a General Manager to lead its Michigan region. This executive will oversee five branch locations with full responsibility for the region's financial performance, commercial growth, operational execution, and leadership development. This is a true business leadership opportunity where you'll operate the region as your own business. You'll partner closely with executive leadership while coaching Branch Managers, driving sales performance, improving operational efficiencies, strengthening customer relationships, and implementing KPI-driven accountability to position the business for its next phase of growth. The ideal candidate is a competitive, growth-oriented leader who enjoys developing people, building winning cultures, and balancing strategic planning with hands‑on leadership. Key Responsibilities Lead the overall performance of five branch locations throughout Michigan with full P&L ownership. Drive profitable sales growth, increase market share, and execute strategic business initiatives. Coach and develop Branch Managers while building a high-performance, accountable culture. Analyze financial performance, KPIs, and operational metrics to improve profitability and efficiency. Strengthen relationships with contractors, dealers, architects, designers, builders, and commercial customers. Partner with executive leadership on long-term growth initiatives, organizational development, and continuous improvement. Oversee branch operations, including inventory, logistics, customer service, and operational consistency across the region. Travel regularly throughout Michigan to support branch teams and key customer relationships. Ideal Background 10+ years of leadership experience within building materials, flooring, tile, hard surfaces, wholesale distribution, construction products, or a related industry. Multi-site leadership experience with full P&L responsibility. Demonstrated success driving revenue growth, profitability, and market share. Strong sales leadership coupled with operational management experience. Experience coaching Branch Managers and developing future leaders. Data-driven leader with experience utilizing KPIs and financial reporting to make strategic business decisions. Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to lead through growth, change, and continuous improvement.
