Mechanical Project Engineer | Naperville, ILIMEG is hiring a Mechanical Project Engineer in Naperville, IL, to lead mechanical design efforts for low to moderate complexity projects as a project manager or lead engineer. You’ll deliver engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for the vertical building industry—collaborating with senior staff on larger, higher-complexity work and partnering closely with engineers and consultants to achieve positive client outcomes. You will also support project budgets, mentor and train others, and collaborate across disciplines to meet project goals and client expectations.Principal ResponsibilitiesLead the analysis and design of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for vertical building projectsDevelop code-compliant designs, specifications, and calculations in accordance with IMEG standardsPartner with clients to gather requirements, communicate technical information, and maintain strong working relationshipsLead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling efforts to meet deadlines and objectivesDocument design decisions and client instructions while monitoring design progress (percent complete and fee expended)Analyze engineering problems and develop practical, efficient solutions in collaboration with senior engineers and consultantsPerform in-process design reviews and apply IMEG quality control processes to meet internal, industry, and client requirementsPrioritize safety by identifying and mitigating potential risks associated with mechanical systemsCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams (engineers, architects, project managers) to deliver integrated project solutionsIdentify potential project issues and seek guidance from the Project Manager as neededSupport projects through bidding and construction administrationRequired Qualifications and SkillsBachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, requiredProfessional Engineer (PE) License required5 years of experience minimum required, 6 preferred, in the building design consulting industryProficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specificationsStrong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics relating to mechanical design in HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systemsStrong training and mentoring skillsProficiency of industry standard engineering software and tools including HVAC load calculation softwareExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work collaboratively in a team environmentAttention to detail and problem-solving skillsEagerness to adapt to new challengesProficiency in the use of BIM softwareProficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and OutlookAbility to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groupsAbility to travel up to 15% with occasional overnight staysThis position is not eligible for sponsorship.Why Join Us IMEG puts people first—with a strong focus on career growth, work-life balance, and meaningful impact.
