Speech-Language Pathologist
Position Locations: McBride Middle School
Reports To: Director of Special Services/Principal
Salary: Minimum $56,000 (Dependent on Educational Level and Experience)
Purpose Statement
The speech-language pathologist (SLP) works to identify, assess, prevent, assess, and treat speech, language, fluency, and social/cognitive communication deficits that interfere with the student's ability to participate in their educational environment.
Essential Functions
- Collect and monitor data, assess and report student progress toward goals and objectives Conduct student eligibility evaluations and reviews as required by law
- Plan and provide direct speech and language services (one-one or group) to eligible students as required by student IEPs
- Effectively plan for and implement services for students who are in-person and virtually, as necessary
- Collaborate with staff on student services and interventions while meeting with assigned instructional staff/classes in the locations and at the times designated.
- Attends and participates in Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) and Individualized Education Program (IEP) process and meetings as requested
- Arrange and organize speech-language plans, home programs, and other applicable services that meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
- Create an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
- Assure a safe learning environment for students.
- Develops and writes annual goals and short-term instructional objectives for students assigned to the caseload.
- Compiles and maintains therapy records and notes, written reports and other documentation for students assigned to the caseload.
- Completion of all required reports including evaluations, IEP's, data collections, transition plans, Medicaid billing, and progress reports
- Utilize a range of appropriate assistive technology and adaptive resources, as needed
- Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and --in harmony with the goals--establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
- Comply with confidentiality and FERPA
- Support student discipline procedures and issues for students assigned to the caseload.
- Available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
- Other duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience
- Master Degree in Speech and Language Pathology
- Ability to meet all federal, state and local requirements pertaining to special education
- Experience working across multiple age/grade levels
- Experience working with both special education and general education students
- Experience working with students with a range of disabilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Previous school experience desired, but not required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Possess Certificate of Clinical Competence, or satisfy requirements of SLP clinical-fellow or, Valid Michigan Teaching Certification with a Speech endorsement at appropriate grade level.
Meets all Michigan license requirements as issued by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA), Bureau of Health Care Services.
Language Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Other Skills and Abilities Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
