The Welder Fabricator 1 will utilize metal inert gas (MIG) while welding steel and aluminum. This role will weld and assemble metal pieces and products by using handheld welding equipment. The role will set up parts for welding, use hand tools, clamps, jigs, and fixtures. This position will work from specifications, drawings, and welding symbols. This role will prepare and complete work on materials by welding, cutting, grinding, and cleaning metal. They join, fabricate, and repair metal and other weldable material by applying appropriate welding techniques. They will interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams, or schematics to determine the appropriate welding process. The Welder Fabricator 1 will inspect completed welds to determine structural soundness. This position should be familiar with and comply with all safety requirements and protocols for working in a hazardous environment. This position may also prepare the materials and set up for a welding device or robot.

Core functions include performing MIG & TIG welding on products, performing cosmetic welding on products, meeting daily productivity and output goals, setting up components for welding according to specifications, welding components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions, repairing product and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps, testing and inspecting welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws, maintaining equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety, and cutting aluminum to specifications.

Qualifications and requirements include a high school diploma, general education degree (GED), and/or completion certificate from a certified technical school preferred, minimum 1-2 years of work-related experience as a MIG welder highly preferred, MIG welder certifications preferred, ability to read blueprints, ability to use a tape measure and calculate fractions, ability to visualize projects and put together timelines and processes to complete projects efficiently and effectively, and no travel required.

Physical requirements include being subject to medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects, and performing various physical activities such as climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, crawling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Visual acuity is required for close visual activities, and the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, including heat, noise, vibration, and hazards from a production-based environment.
