The Banner Wyoming Medical Center Operating Room team is a highly functioning team whose focus centers on providing exceptional patient care. As a Senior Surgical Tech you will have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment where teamwork and efficiency are valued; while you hone your critical thinking skills and positively impact the patient outcomes on a daily basis.

As a Surgical Technologist, you'll work in an operating room along with other healthcare professionals. You will have the opportunity to assist during surgery and perform pre and post-operative duties. Scrub techs are the first team members to scrub in. After doing so, they set out necessary instruments, ensure they're sterilized, position the patient on the operating table, and arrange sterile drapes ensuring the surgical field is exposed. Throughout the procedure, scrub techs will pass the surgeon instruments, sponges, and dressings as needed. They may also retract tissue, apply suction, or assist with suturing.

This will be a Full-Time Varied Shift Position, working 3 12's 7:00am-7:00pm and 7:00pm-7:30am.

BLS Certification is required for this position.

Banner Wyoming Medical Center is located in the heart of Casper Wyoming. With 249 beds and a level 2 trauma center, Wyoming Medical Center is proud to serve the entire state of Wyoming.

POSITION SUMMARY This position selects and places surgical instruments, supplies and equipment during surgery. Scrubs and provides instruments, sutures, and other sterile supplies during surgical procedure.

CORE FUNCTIONS

• Prepares for surgical procedures. Pulls appropriate instruments and supplies and ensures good working order of instruments. Reviews case carts for correct instruments and supplies. Plans ahead for upcoming surgical case needs.
• Anticipates the surgeon's needs. Passes instruments and retracts tissue.
• Demonstrates the principles of aseptic technique and universal precautions throughout the procedure. Disposes of sharps and trash and places used supplies into case cart for processing. Participates in counting of sharps, instruments and sponges. Prepares instruments for cleaning following each case.
• Ensures that all surgeon preference cards and pick lists are accurate.
• Assists with OR turnover between cases. Participates in stocking, replenishing supplies and cleaning operating rooms.
• May provide business support to the department including assigned administrative tasks.
• Participates in or leads the training and orientation of surgical technology staff and students, as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma/GED and current basic life support certification. Where applicable must be registered with State Regulatory Agency The position requires manual dexterity and the ability to maintain professional decorum in highly stressful emergent situations. The position requires the ability to be conscientious, organized, and orderly and the ability to respond quickly to the needs of the surgeon and patient. Must stay abreast of new developments in the field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from a certified school of surgical technology or two years of operating room experience. Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
