Responsibilities Gather patient histories Perform physical exams Create treatment plans Conduct diagnostics Provide dentistry services Observe/assist or perform surgical procedures Manage medical care of patients Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients Duration & Schedule Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. SportsVet Animal Medical Center offers externships to 3rd and 4th year veterinary students. Stipend Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. The stipend amount at SportsVet Animal Medical Center is $500.
