Middle School Art Teacher 2026-2027

The Middle School Art Teacher fosters creativity, artistic expression, and appreciation for the visual arts among students in grades 6–8. This role involves designing engaging, standards-aligned lessons that develop students’ technical skills, critical thinking, and cultural awareness in art. As part of a charter school environment, the teacher supports the school’s mission, often integrating arts across the curriculum and contributing to a collaborative, innovative culture. Key Responsibilities Instruction & Curriculum Plan and deliver engaging art lessons aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for Visual Arts Teach a variety of media and techniques (drawing, painting, sculpture, digital art, etc.) Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs and learning styles Integrate art history, cultural context, and cross-curricular connections Classroom Environment Maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive art classroom Establish clear expectations for behavior, materials use, and cleanup Promote creativity, respect, and constructive critique among students Assessment & Student Growth Assess student work using rubrics and performance-based evaluations Provide timely, constructive feedback to support artistic development Track student progress and maintain accurate records Collaboration & School Community Collaborate with teachers to integrate arts into other subject areas Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school events Organize student art displays, exhibitions, or showcases Charter School Contribution Support the mission and goals of the charter school Contribute to school initiatives, clubs, or extracurricular activities (e.g., art club) Engage with families through conferences, communication, and events Qualifications Required Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or related field Eligibility for or possession of a North Carolina teaching license (or willingness to obtain) Experience working with middle school-aged students Preferred Valid NC Educator License in Art (K–12) Experience in a charter or innovative school setting Familiarity with project-based learning or arts integration Strong classroom management skills Skills & Competencies Strong knowledge of art techniques and art history Ability to inspire and engage adolescents Classroom management and organization Creativity, flexibility, and collaboration Effective communication with students, staff, and families #J-18808-Ljbffr Socrates Academy
