The good-faith pay range for this role is $73,200 - $105,050 per year. Actual compensation may vary and may be above the posted range based on factors such as a candidate's skills, experience, education, certifications, and work location.
What your job will be like:This position requires a versatile individual capable of fulfilling multiple functions. Primary responsibilities include the radiological environmental program, radioanalytical laboratory, quality assurance, and other elements of the radiation control program. The role also provides and coordinates support for additional areas of radiation protection as needed and serves as a backup for other professionals within the RadCon Department. Core duties include technical document writing and document maintenance to ensure programmatic accuracy, regulatory alignment, and consistent implementation. The position will be routinely engaged in radiologically challenging, timesensitive tasks with regulatory constraints.
In this job you will:- Act as technical lead for the radiological environmental program, including sampling, analyzing, and reporting.
- Act as primary or alternate lead for the sealed source program.
- Provide support for the radioanalytical laboratory, including routine oversight of laboratory quality assurance, sample handling protocols, and establishment of counting protocols.
- Create and maintain technical documentation in support of the health physics program.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management in support of Departmental, Divisional, and Laboratory goals and objectives.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations and development of implementation plans for DOE orders and directives.
- Assists in the implementation of the dosimetry program.
- Assists in development and delivery of radiological training.
- Preferred: 5 or more years experience Radiation Control Technician, Health Physics Technician, or Radioanalytical Laboratory
- Preferred: 2 or more years experience in Health Physics
- Excellent written and oral communication and technical writing skills.
- Display high level of initiative and ability to manage multiple projects with clear expectations and timelines.
- Required: Bachelor's Degree in a scientific/engineering field
Education above the minimum may be substituted for experience. Relevant experience may not be substituted for education. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Familiarity with radiation detection instrumentation and measurement methodology.
- Knowledge of laboratory analytical techniques used to characterize and quantify radionuclides from environmental and process samples.
- Broad working knowledge of DOE regulations and directives related to radiation safety.
- Computer literacy, familiarity with a broad range of software tools.
- Ability to communicate technical information effectively to a broad audience.
- Understanding of environmental radiation protection concerns at high energy electron accelerators.
