Job Overview Position Title: Carpenter-Cabinet Maker Location: Honolulu Work Hours: Monday to Friday, 6:50 a.m. – 3:20 p.m. This role reports to the Lead Carpenter or Carpentry Supervisor and involves highly skilled journey‑level carpentry and cabinet‑making work on public facilities. Responsibilities Construct walls, partitions, ceilings, floors, etc., during renovations and modifications. Build new wooden structures such as offices, meeting rooms, carports, storage sheds. Fabricate and install built‑in cabinets, counters, shelving, bookcases, desks, work tables, doors, door frames. Remove and replace damaged or termite‑eaten sills, floor joists, rafters, walls, partitions, and apply termite treatment chemicals. Read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and sketches to determine required materials. Special Work Requirements Serves as a Disaster Response Worker; may work beyond normal hours, on weekends, or as needed. Unescorted access to the Joint Traffic Management Center (JTMC); fingerprint‑based national criminal history record check required. Experience Requirements Experience and/or training sufficient to competently perform journey‑level carpentry and cabinet‑making duties, including: Planning, setting up, and executing work. Operating woodworking machines and cabling. Interpreting plans, specifications, blueprints, and drawings. Estimating time, labor, material and rigging. Constructing and repairing high‑grade furniture and fine woodwork to close tolerances. Working with dexterity and safety, and following instructions. Maintaining working relationships and handling weights and loads. NOTE: Cabinet‑making experience alone is not qualifying; both carpentry and cabinet‑making experience required. License & Certificate Requirements Valid driver's license (Type 3/automobile) prior to appointment. Valid forklift certification prior to completion of probation. Fingerprinting Requirement Unescorted access to JTMC requires a fingerprint‑based criminal history record check.
