Job Description

The Sales Estimator is responsible for developing new business opportunities while preparing accurate and competitive estimates for civil excavation projects. This role serves as the first point of contact with customers, builds long-term relationships with general contractors and developers, performs quantity takeoffs, obtains vendor pricing, prepares proposals, and helps ensure projects are won at profitable margins.

The ideal candidate is self-motivated, organized, technically knowledgeable in excavation and utilities, and passionate about growing the company.

Key Responsibilities

Sales & Business Development

• Develop and maintain relationships with general contractors, developers, municipalities, and private clients.
• Identify and pursue new bidding opportunities.
• Attend networking events, pre-bid meetings, and project walkthroughs.
• Follow up on submitted bids to increase award opportunities.
• Maintain customer relationships before, during, and after project completion.
• Assist with company marketing and brand development.

Estimating

• Review plans, specifications, and bid documents.
• Perform quantity takeoffs for:

  • Underground utilities
  • Storm drainage
  • Sewer
  • Water systems
  • Grading
  • Demolition
  • Earthwork
• Solicit subcontractor and supplier pricing.
• Build accurate project cost estimates.
• Prepare detailed proposals and bid packages.
• Ensure estimates meet company profit margin goals.
• Track bid history and maintain estimating records.

Project Handoff

• Coordinate with project managers after project award.
• Review estimate assumptions with field personnel.
• Assist with project budgeting.
• Clarify scope and contract requirements.

Customer Service

• Respond promptly to client inquiries.
• Negotiate pricing when appropriate.
• Resolve pre-construction questions.
• Represent the company professionally at all times.
