Pharmacy Technician IIThe Pharmacy Technician II assists the Pharmacist and other hospital staff in providing quality care to patients by applying knowledge and training of medication distribution.Reports to: Job Specific ResponsibilitiesDaily assignments may include but are not limited to:Provide training to new employees and/or pharmacy students as directed by pharmacists or supervisorAccurately process medication orders and requests, gather and dispense medications, fill prescription ordersDeliver drugs to assigned unitsMaintain daily pharmacy logsAssist in inventory control, answer phones, and other assigned duties by the Pharmacist and/or Pharmacy SupervisorPrepare IV medications in accordance with USP 797/800 regulationsEnsure IV rooms are cleaned and documented in accordance with USP 797/800Obtain and enter medication history for patient into electronic format within EHREnsure accuracy of medication history for patientIdentify and report to pharmacist any noted inaccuracies, duplicates, or other safety concerns generated from medication historyAll other assigned duties related to Pharmacy ComplianceEducation and Experience:High School Diploma or GEDRequired Licensures/Certifications/Registrations:Registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the State of Texas Board of PharmacyCertificate of completion of a nationally recognized IV Certification ProgramOR Certificate of completion of UMCHS Pharmacy Medication Reconciliation Program (if hired specifically for pharmacy med rec position, Must complete certificate within 90 days of hire into the role)Skills and Abilities:Demonstrated combination of training and experience that requires concentration, accuracy, and disciplineExcellent communication skills, both verbally and in writingBasic knowledge of medical terminologyInteraction with Other Departments and Other Relationships:Daily interaction with other staff within the Pharmacy department. Works closely with clinics, nursing units, EMS, and other hospital staff as requiredPhysical Capabilities:Work is of light demand; involves lots of walking on the health center campus. Must possess near visual acuity to read documents and computer records. Ability to lift up to 10pounds.Environmental/Working Conditions:This position is subject to inside environmental changes that may include constant change in temperatures.
