About the Position

Job Title: RN Med Surg Profession: Nursing Specialty: Med-surg Adult Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 5 years of Med Surg or Emergency Room experience required. Previous traveler experience required. License: Current RN license required. Certifications: Current BLS certification required. Current ACLS certification required. Current PALS certification required. Must-Have: Cerner EHR/EMR experience required. Description: An experienced Med Surg RN is sought to provide observation and/or inpatient care to patients assigned to the Med Surg Unit. The RN is responsible for assessing and prioritizing patient care. The RN will administer nursing care and procedures. Monitoring and reassessing patients is a key responsibility. Documenting assessments and changes in condition is required. Educating patients and families is essential. Collaboration with providers is necessary to support continuity of care and help prevent readmission. The RN will provide patient care within the RN scope of practice and in accordance with physician/provider orders. Comprehensive patient assessments, care planning, nursing interventions, reassessments, and evaluation of care provided will be performed. The RN will monitor patients for changes in condition. Abnormal findings must be reported to the appropriate provider. Medications, IV therapy, oxygen therapy, blood products, and other treatments will be administered accurately and timely. Operating infusion pumps and documenting accurately in the electronic health record is required. The RN will complete documentation in accordance with competencies, training, policies, and procedures. Organizing and documenting assessments, care tasks, procedures, and patient education is necessary. Age-specific nursing care, including assessment and reassessment of patient condition, will be provided. Knowledge of cardiac monitoring and rhythm interpretation is required. The RN will take appropriate action when needed. Patient and family education related to disease processes, treatment plans, medications, pain management, wound care, discharge planning, and follow-up care will be provided. Care transfer using SBAR format is to be utilized when appropriate. Following infection prevention practices, universal precautions, and National Patient Safety Goals is essential. The RN must maintain patient confidentiality and protect patient rights, dignity, and privacy. Collaboration with providers, staff, and other departments will support interdisciplinary patient care. Mentoring other nursing staff and supporting continuous learning is encouraged. Work is performed in a hospital setting with exposure to work stress, environmental stress, and frequent interruptions. Moderate noise and regular communication with patients, employees, vendors, and the public are expected. This position requires the ability to perform heavy work, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, and assisting with patient movement and positioning. The role includes potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids, communicable disease, radiation, chemicals, and hazardous materials. Verbal or physical abuse and physical strain related to patient care may occur. Demonstration of professionalism, teamwork, service excellence, sound judgment, adaptability, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced hospital environment is required. Compliance with all facility policies, procedures, safety requirements, and confidentiality standards is expected.
