Job Description Summary The Emergency Department Technician II reports to the Nurse Manager. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Emergency Department Technician III performs multi‑skilled activities to support a decentralized patient‑centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. Entity / Organization Medical University Hospital Authority (MUHA) Worker Type and Schedule Employee (Regular). Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36. Work Shift: varied; hourly pay; Pay Grade: Health‑21; Cost Center: CC003779 COL - Emergency Department (NMC). Minimum Training and Education High School diploma or GED required. Preferred: experience as a Patient Care Tech, nursing assistant, nursing student, or completion of one Adult Medical / Surgical course with hands‑on clinical experience. Minimum of 1 year patient‑care experience in a health‑care environment or certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Within six months of hire: successfully pass online course modules, phlebotomy training and skill validation for basic and advanced skills, and EKG training, achieving an 80% passing rate on each test within two attempts. Successful completion of Emergency Department Technician unit‑specific training and competency demonstration within the first six months is required. Licensure, Certifications, Registrations BLS certification with Red Cross or AHA. Physical Requirements Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors, from elevated areas, in confined spaces, kneeling, bending at the waist, squatting, repetitive motions, reaching in all directions, and with good finger dexterity. Ability to use both legs and both hands/arms continuously. Ability to lift and carry 15 lbs unassisted; lift/lower objects 15 lbs from floor to 36 in; lift from 36 in to overhead 15 lbs. Maintain 20/40 vision (corrected if needed), recognize objects at close and distance, discriminate colors, and perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. Work in a latex‑safe environment; maintain tobacco, olfactory, tactile, and respirator‑use capabilities as needed. Additional Job Description High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Experience: at least 1 year in a .6 ft‑E D Technician I position at MUSC or a Certified Nursing Assistant, EMT, CMA, Paramedic, Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT), or a military medical occupation; or at least 1 year of inpatient hospital experience; or a college degree; or active enrollment in nursing school with completion of Nursing Fundamentals from an accredited institution; or active enrollment in a healthcare‑related field from an accredited institution. Credentials: Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire; thereafter maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.
