Position Overview:

Responsible for assessing and caring for patients requiring respiratory therapy. Administers prescribed therapeutic services related to respiratory health.

Key Responsibilities and Qualifications:

PRIMARY DUTIES

• Evaluates patients to determine the appropriate type and frequency of treatment, creating a care plan based on their diagnosis.

• Delivers respiratory care services in line with physician orders, departmental policies, and established guidelines.

• Implements and oversees the patient care plan and associated equipment. Monitors, documents, and communicates the patient's condition. Performs advanced respiratory care techniques.

• Assesses respiratory practices, medication administration, and treatment effectiveness based on patient outcomes.

• Provides education to patients and their families regarding health conditions and informs them about community support resources and programs.

• Aids in the care, calibration, and maintenance of all equipment. Participates in managing departmental inventory for supplies and equipment, ensuring proper cleaning and sterilization procedures are followed.

• Responds to medical emergencies and rapid response situations.

• Maintains a state of alertness and operates safely at all times.

• Performs additional tasks as assigned.

EDUCATION

• Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE

• No prior experience necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Regularly uses speech for effective oral communication.

• Constantly stands and walks.

• Frequently lifts, carries, and pushes/pulls items weighing up to 25 lbs.

• Regularly sits, reaches, and engages in data entry.

• Frequently utilizes vision and depth perception for both near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) distances, as well as color differentiation.

• Regularly uses smell to identify and recognize odors.

• Frequently employs hearing to receive verbal communication, distinguish bodily sounds, and detect alarms or malfunctioning equipment.

• Occasionally lifts, carries, and pushes/pulls items weighing between 25-50 lbs.

• Occasionally assists in lifting/moving patients.

• Occasionally bends, stoops, kneels, squats, twists, grips, and performs repetitive movements with feet/legs and hands/arms.

• Occasionally drives.

• Rarely crawls or runs.

REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

State of Employment: Missouri

• Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)

• And

• Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) - National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)

• And

• Respiratory Care Practitioner - Missouri Division of Professional Registration
