JOB PURPOSE

The Transportation Routing Supervisor performs supervisory and administrative work to schedule and safely and efficiently operate school bus transportation for Jackson County School System. Work involves supervising permanent, hourly and substitute bus drivers; developing bus routes based on population and geographical factors, and assigning students to bus routes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) prior to being hired required; Three years of experience with educational transportation software system; Possession of valid Georgia Department of Transportation Commercial Driver's license (CDL) with a passenger and school bus endorsement. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot common issues High integrity, excellent character, and good professional reputation. Organizing tasks and working independently to meet deadlines with minimal supervision; Ability to handle difficult and sensitive situations utilizing good judgment; Engaging and encouraging communication skills while interacting with supervisors, staff, students, etc. Skilled in record keeping Ability to supervise others Strong motivation with minimum supervision Proactive and forward thinking Ability to achieve thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing a task. Ability to be a team player and collaborate with others to meet deadlines and work in a highly organized manner. Abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators. Ability to be regularly, predictably and reliably at work. Working conditions Operates in a professional office environment. Routinely use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers. May require occasional travel to schools and other locations within the school district. May occasionally require evening and weekend work. Physical requirements Ability to perform tasks involving twisting, reaching, and prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting. Ability to perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 25 pounds. Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversees the routing system for all students including regular education, special education, and McKenney-Vento students. Develops routing system to maximize cost, personnel, and time efficiencies to include determining bus stop locations and schedules. Oversees all information entered, imported, and maintained in the transportation software application systems. Determines student eligibility for transportation based on boundaries, district policy, regulations, and procedures. Coordinates, creates, and edits attendance, walk, and busing boundaries for each school in the district. Meets with District and school administration to review, analyze and discuss student eligibility, boundaries and routes. Supervises the routing staff and bus drivers including determining workloads, establishing work schedules, monitoring work performance, training on departmental procedures, providing staff development programs, and provides input and recommendations to the Director of Transportation on performance evaluations, resolving staff conflicts, and interpreting and implementing policies and procedures. Acts as a liaison between the Transportation department and third party support personnel. Collaborates with the technology department to ensure system setup and maintenance District standards and requirements. Reviews and troubleshoots routing inefficiencies; makes necessary changes to attendance boundaries; and projects population turnover and other pertinent trends. Investigates, evaluates, and creates solutions for special routing requests and unique projects. Prepares reports ensuring that the transportation routing service is meeting the expectations of the administration and accurately reflects operating conditions. Collaborates with other departments to provide routing information, demographic information for facilities planning, and other pertinent data. Serves as a reserve bus driver to include transporting students to and from school, conducting pre-trip inspections of buses, ensuring buses are safe and presentable, maintaining discipline, and preparing incident documents when appropriate. Attends meetings and conferences to remain current laws, regulations, and advancement of transportation routing systems. Ensures the transportation of students (e.g. routing system) is in compliance with District policies and procedures and federal, state, county and city laws and regulations. Researches technical manuals, journals, and other related materials to stay updated on current best practices for routing systems. Performs other duties as required.
