Senior Accountant - Financial Reporting & Consolidations Location: Brick, NJ Area Job Type: Full-Time Industry: Established Corporate Organization About the Opportunity We are seeking a detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join an established finance and accounting team. This role will work closely with the Controller and Assistant Controller on monthly accounting activities, the financial close process, financial statement preparation, consolidations, and variance analysis. The position will also provide exposure to SOX compliance, intercompany accounting, cash forecasting, budgeting, audit support, and special projects. This is an excellent opportunity for an accountant looking to build on their technical accounting experience and take on increased responsibility within a collaborative finance organization. Key Responsibilities Financial Close & Reporting Support the monthly and year-end close processes and ensure accounting activities are completed accurately and on schedule. Prepare and post journal entries and maintain accurate general ledger activity. Assist with the preparation of balance sheets, income statements, and other financial statements. Prepare weekly and monthly financial reports and supporting schedules. Review financial information for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established accounting policies and regulatory requirements. Consolidations & Intercompany Accounting Prepare elimination and consolidation entries as part of the monthly reporting process. Record, maintain, and reconcile intercompany balances. Assist with identifying and resolving intercompany discrepancies. Support consolidated financial reporting and related analysis. Financial Analysis & Budgeting Prepare and review actual-to-budget variance analyses. Identify potential budget variances and investigate significant fluctuations. Compile financial and statistical information to support management reporting and decision-making. Analyze expenditures against budget and communicate relevant findings to management. Cash Management Support daily cash reporting and analysis. Participate in cash forecasting activities. Prepare and maintain cash-related schedules and supporting documentation. Assist with identifying trends and providing information to management regarding cash position and requirements. SOX, Audit & Compliance Assist with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance activities, including documentation, testing support, and maintaining appropriate controls. Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, reports, and supporting documentation. Assist with fiscal year-end audit activities. Ensure accounting activities are performed in accordance with company policies, GAAP, and applicable regulatory requirements. Management & Department Support Prepare and clearly communicate financial schedules and analyses to management and external auditors. Review expenses, payroll-related records, and other financial information as assigned. Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial information within company databases and systems. Provide accounting support and guidance to other departments as needed. Work independently on assigned responsibilities while collaborating with the broader finance and accounting team. Special Projects Participate in accounting and finance projects supporting senior leadership. Assist with process improvements and other short- and long-term initiatives. Take on additional responsibilities as assigned by the CFO, Controller, or Assistant Controller. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting required. 2-3+ years of accounting experience. Experience with financial close and general ledger accounting. Experience with accounting consolidations and intercompany transactions strongly preferred. Exposure to SOX compliance and internal controls is highly desirable. Strong understanding of financial statements, journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office. Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work independently with minimal day-to-day supervision. Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing business needs. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of an organization. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented accounting professional with a strong general ledger foundation and an interest in financial reporting and technical accounting. Candidates with experience in consolidations, intercompany accounting, SOX controls, and month-end close will be especially well suited for this opportunity.
