About the Position

• Sterile techs are responsible for cleaning, decontaminating, and disassembling various medical instruments, surgical tools, and equipment after they have been used. They use specialized cleaning solutions, ultrasonic cleaners, and mechanical washers to remove contaminants and residues.
• They carefully inspect cleaned instruments to ensure they are free of damage, wear, or defects. Any damaged or malfunctioning instruments are reported and removed from circulation for repair or replacement.
• After cleaning and inspection, sterile techs assemble instrument sets, ensuring that they are correctly configured for specific medical procedures. They also package the instruments in sterile wrap or containers according to established protocols.
• Operating sterilization equipment such as autoclaves, gas sterilizers, or other methods to sterilize packaged instruments. Sterile techs monitor and record sterilization cycles to ensure effectiveness and compliance with safety standards.
• Managing inventory of sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment to ensure an adequate supply is available when needed. They also order replacements as necessary and maintain records of inventory levels.
• Ensuring that sterilization processes are consistently effective by conducting routine quality control tests and maintaining accurate records of sterilization parameters.
• Strictly adhering to infection control protocols, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements, such as those established by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), and AAMI (Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation).
