New York University: NYU - NY: Arts and Science (A&S): Anthropology Department Location New York, NY Open Date Sep 23, 2026 Description A position is available in the New York University Department of Anthropology for a longitudinal study of the rhesus macaques of Cayo Santiago, Puerto Rico, as part of a new U19 award from the National Institute on Aging. The position is initially for one year, potentially renewable for up to five years. Researcher (Collections Curator: CPRC-NYU Macaque Collection) This position supports the Laboratory for Human Evolutionary Studies (LHES) at NYU with a main focus on curating and expanding the CPRC-NYU Macaque Skeletal Collection, as a systematic skeletal collection housed at LHES. The position supports projects that are part of a large, multi-institutional consortium, and will require working and coordinating with a large (>100 individuals) group of researchers, including shipping and receiving samples. Workflow also includes laser and CT scanning, gross identification, inventory and documentation, accession and database management, and contributing to research. Based in New York, the curator will also spend time in Puerto Rico and affiliated labs elsewhere and they may collect data, contribute to curation, assist in maceration, and/or participate in public science programs among other duties. The curator will work closely with Prof. Susan Antón, in addition to Prof. Scott Williams, and the Associate Director of the research center, Hannah Taboada. Key Responsibilities Serve as lead curator of the CPRC-NYU collection including skeletal identification, inventory, accessioning, scanning and workflow oversight Train and supervise curators Prepare specimens for shipping and scanning Participate in the collection, organization, processing, and assessment of imaging (surface and microCT scans) of skeletons across the lifespan from the CPRC-NYU collection. Liaise with CBRU biobank supervisors to integrate skeletal data with existing somatic, life-history, and health data Assist with establishing publicly available training material (virtual imaging and workshops) to support public engagement of science Run day to day operations and contribute to specific projects of the Laboratory for Human Evolutionary Studies (LHES) where the CPRC-NYU Collection is housed This position is based in New York and the selected candidate will be expected to work onsite as of their effective start date. In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $58,000-62,000 per year. Qualifications MA/MS (preferred) in Anthropology, Anatomy or related field. Expertise in primate (both nonhuman and human) osteology. Experience in 2D and 3D methods of collecting data from the skeleton including digital imaging and processing (laser scanning or microCT). Familiarity with museum skeletal curation procedures and workflows. Experience conducting skeletal maceration highly desired. Enthusiasm for building pathways to science including throughpublicly engaged science or science outreach. Attention to detail, high standards of quality control, excellent communication skills. Ability to work independently, collegially, and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
