Spring Branch Independent School District Special Education Teacher – Autism (CUBS) Job Title: Special Education Teacher – Autism (CUBS) Reports To: Building Principal Classification: Professional Wage/Hour Status: Exempt Days: 188 Salary: See Compensation Plan for New Hire Guide for Teachers Contract: Probationary/Term Date Revised: 11/15/2023 Primary Purpose Responsible for the instructional program and guidance of students identified as needing special education services. Qualifications / Skills Education / Certification: Bachelor’s degree in a related field; Valid Texas Teacher Certificate or out‑of‑state teaching certificate appropriate for the position; ESL Certification required during first year if not already obtained; Certification must meet federal and state requirements. Special Knowledge / Skills: Knowledge of structured teaching strategies for students with Autism; extensive knowledge of effective instructional practices for students with severe cognitive and other developmental disabilities; proficiency in developing and implementing effective behavior intervention plans for students with moderate to severe behavior concerns; proficiency in collecting data to establish strengths, needs, and goals for instruction; physical capacity to lift, transfer, and assist students with physical disabilities (e.g., lift 50 lbs); trained in de‑escalation and restraint techniques; excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; proficiency in effective use of technology; ability to work effectively with both adults and children. Major Duties and Responsibilities Instructional Strategies Adhere to district philosophy, develop and implement lesson plans that meet curriculum requirements and provide written evidence of preparation. Prepare lessons that accommodate differences in student learning styles and present subject matter per Texas Education Agency guidelines, board policies, and administrative regulations. Participate in the identification and evaluation of learner competencies. Recommend appropriate goals and objectives for learner needs. Develop and write students’ IEPs. Follow specific instructional objectives based on the student’s learning style. Implement new methodologies, philosophies, and innovations. Student Growth and Development Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits; conduct ongoing assessment of achievement through formal and informal testing. Serve as a positive role model and support the mission of the district. Assist students with physical disabilities. Classroom Management and Organization Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for physical, social, and emotional development. Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and handbook. Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities; assist in selecting instructional materials. Attend required meetings and complete required reports. Communication Maintain open communication through conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers; uphold professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. Collaborate with others to meet learner needs. Consult with parents and appropriate school personnel regarding each student’s intellectual, academic, social, emotional, and physical development. Professional Growth and Development Participate in staff development activities to improve job‑related skills. Keep informed about state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. Compile, maintain, and file all required reports, records, and documents. Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Other Perform other duties as assigned. Equipment Used Computer, copy machine, and audiovisual machines. Working Conditions Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions; position requires regular in‑person interaction with the public. Physical Demands: Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing; move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment; lift, transfer, and assist students with physical disabilities (e.g., lift 50 lbs).
