Switchboard Operator Innovation At Work, Inc. is seeking professional and reliable switchboard operators to support 24/7 communication operations at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in Bronx, NY. This role is responsible for managing high-volume incoming calls, routing communications accurately, and supporting critical hospital communication functions including emergency notifications and overhead paging. Available shifts (24/7 coverage required): Weekday shifts (Monday Friday): Day shift: 7:00 AM 3:00 PM Evening shift: 3:00 PM 11:00 PM Overnight shift: 11:00 PM 7:00 AM Weekend & holiday shifts: Day shift: 7:00 AM 3:00 PM Evening shift: 3:00 PM 11:00 PM Overnight shift: 11:00 PM 7:00 AM Schedules will be assigned based on operational needs. Candidates must be flexible to work weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts. Key responsibilities: Operate multi-line telephone switchboard systems in a high-volume environment Answer and route incoming calls to appropriate departments, staff, and on-call personnel Initiate overhead paging announcements and emergency code communications Maintain accurate logs of calls, messages, and critical communications Provide information and assistance to patients, visitors, and staff in a professional manner Monitor and respond to urgent and routine communication requests Ensure timely and accurate message delivery across departments Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and Privacy Act requirements Requirements: Minimum qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent Minimum of 12 years of experience in a call center, switchboard, or customer service role Ability to handle high call volumes in a fast-paced environment Strong verbal communication and listening skills Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, call logging systems) Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
