S27-262 Transportation Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY

Provides support to school and department staff and administrators, performs duties in transportation and dispatch offices. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides a high level of customer service to students, parents, and other district staff members. Greets visitors, receives phone calls, distributes mail and messages to appropriate personnel. May schedule and coordinate appointments, meetings and in-school conferences. Organizes and coordinates various programs at the request and under the direction of the school administrator. Maintains records of correspondence and other informational files. Manages mail through sorting, distributing and preparation of bulk mail as needed. Researches information as requested and provides findings to administrators, teachers and staff. Serves as a backup for other site office positions when needed. May schedule maintenance and transportation needs for the school, including the creation and oversight of work orders as needed. May prepare payroll for various departments which could include reporting or coding time slips. May assist in gathering information for audits and monitoring of grants for federal compliance. May process district travel monthly mileage and other expense reimbursements requests. Assists with transportation office/dispatch. Coordinates drivers and vehicles for activities and trips not scheduled on standard bus routes. Monitors, responds to and communicates via two-way radio with all drivers. Collects, maintains and documents all required route information, and driver records and reports. Uses district systems to retrieve student information and approved bus routes. Performs related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Demonstrate intermediate proficiency in computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Ability to operate standard office equipment. Ability to maintain confidentiality with regards to people or events that occur on campus. Produce accurate work and complete assignments with minimal supervision. Knowledge of transportation procedures and regulations, district facilities and bus route system, bus equipment and operation. Ability to read and understand standards and procedures prescribed by the Arizona Minimum Standards for School Buses and School Bus Drivers. Ability to be trained and to use district's transportation software. Ability to communicate highly effectively both verbally (including while using two-way communications equipment), and in writing. Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situation. Ability to handle emergencies, confrontation and conflict without an emotional response. Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents and community agency members. Perform all duties in accordance with Federal and State laws, district procedures and Board policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or equivalent 2 years previous experience within Transportation Department environment and/or 2-3 years administrative support experience Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that meets minimum requirements

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. WORK ENVIRONMENT

Indoor office environment. This position regularly works indoors and may be required to work outdoors on occasion. The noise level in the work environment is generally quiet to moderate and may become excessively noisy at times. Will have contact with employees, the public, regulatory and government agencies and occasionally with students. $19.85/hour-12 month position - 40 hours/week
