Pay Salary: $57,095 - $74,402 Summary Performs preventive, predictive, and reactive maintenance on complex refrigeration equipment supporting an intensive biotechnology/life sciences research and health care campus. Systems supported include direct expansion (DX) units, environmental chambers, walk‑in coolers and freezers, air dryers, ice machines, packaged units, computer room air conditioning (CRAC) units, dehumidification systems, refrigerated scientific equipment, ultra‑low and cryogenic equipment, small chillers, and hot water and steam boiler systems. Tasks include troubleshooting complex control circuits, replacing compressors, repairing refrigerant leaks, replacing fan/blower motors, changing out various refrigeration mechanical and electrical controls, and maintaining EPA refrigerant management logs. Additional work includes maintaining and repairing complex boiler systems, calibrating boilers to run efficiently, and preparing boilers for state inspections. Performs some equipment replacements and installations, and may work on construction or renovation projects, providing written comments that may not meet plans, specifications, codes, or guidelines. Responsibilities Perform preventive, predictive, and reactive maintenance on complex refrigeration and boiler equipment. Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and control system issues in DX units and related systems. Record and maintain EPA refrigerant management logs. Calibrate and prepare boiler systems for state inspections. Assist with construction or renovation projects, including equipment installations and modification documentation. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Valid North Carolina Driver’s License or ability to obtain one prior to hire date. EPA 608 universal refrigerant certification. Understanding of mechanical diagrams, electrical schematics, and blueprints. Experience with HVAC service and installation, diagnostics, repairs, and equipment replacement. Ability to complete accurate service documentation (diagnosis, measurements, work performed). Physical and Mental Requirements Move objects weighing up to 65 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation. Use hand trucks or general material‑handling equipment for large equipment. Work from ladders for extended periods and outside during adverse weather. Wear respirator and PPE such as safety shoes, eye protection, and arc‑flash safety gear. Serve as a mandatory employee and report to work in support of essential operations during adverse weather or emergency conditions. Work in high‑containment labs requiring baseline blood draw, physical exam, vaccines, and annual medical certification; entry requires escort and respirator use. Work in health care facilities; maintain required vaccines and health certifications. Serve on‑call duty on a rotating basis, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Benefits Sign‑on bonus of $5,639 available in two installments: $2,819.50 within 30 days of hire and $2,819.50 twelve months after hire. Eligible employees will sign a Pay Back Agreement form.
