Registered Nurse (RN) | Women's Center

Avera Health, a regional health system based in Sioux Falls, SD, is seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Women’s Center within our Healthcare & Medical Services department. In this role, you will provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care to women across the continuum of obstetric and gynecologic services, including antepartum, labor and delivery, postpartum, post-surgical, and women’s health specialty care. Working collaboratively with physicians, midwives, advanced practice providers, and an interdisciplinary care team, you will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans that promote safety, comfort, and optimal clinical outcomes for women and newborns. The RN in the Women’s Center will perform comprehensive patient assessments, monitor maternal and fetal status, administer prescribed medications and treatments, assist with labor support and delivery procedures, and provide postpartum and newborn care and education. You will respond to changes in patient condition using sound clinical judgment, follow established protocols and evidence-based practice, and participate in emergency interventions such as obstetric, neonatal, or surgical emergencies as needed. Accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record, adherence to infection prevention and patient safety standards, and consistent communication with patients, families, and the care team are essential components of this position. You will provide education on labor expectations, pain management options, breastfeeding, post-surgical care, newborn care, family planning, and women’s health maintenance. Collaboration with social services, lactation consultants, case management, and other disciplines is encouraged to support holistic care, safe discharge planning, and smooth transitions of care. In this role, you will participate in ongoing education, skills development, and competency training specific to women’s health, obstetrics, and newborn care. You may precept new staff, contribute to quality improvement initiatives, follow regulatory and accreditation standards, and help implement best practices in maternal and infant safety. Schedule may include variable shifts, weekends, and holidays as required for 24/7 patient care.
