Job Description and Duties

Under general supervision of the Supervisor of Building Trades, supervises, instructs and works with a crew of incarcerated person helpers; lays out, directs and assists with the work of construction and repair of various types of buildings, sheds, scaffolds, forms, frames, fences and other structures in building cupboards, lockers, shelves, doors and window frames; draws working sketches; prepares lists of materials and supplies for job and storeroom; maintains job records; prepares reports and does other work as required.  May be required to undergo physical and pulmonary examination for the respirator program, participate in confined space training and asbestos abatement, and training for maintenance of lethal electric fence structure and components. Maintains order and supervises the conduct of persons committed to the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation; prevents escapes and injury by these persons to themselves or others or to property; maintains security of working areas and work materials; inspects premises and searches incarcerated persons for contraband such as weapons or illegal drugs. Employee may be required to obtain a Class “B” Commercial California Driver’s License. Employee must have the flexibility to perform this task throughout the entire facility regardless of assigned position.  See attached Duty Statement.

Candidates new to CDCR/CCHCS are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, as well as a Tuberculosis test/evaluation prior to appointment, followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
