Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Tele position on an Infusion/Oncology unit, requiring acute care experience with drip titration and a WI or compact RN license.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting, Level II Trauma Center
• 27-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit (8N) serving an oncology, hematology, and general medical patient population — common diagnoses include GI bleed, PE/DVT, sepsis, CHF/COPD, pneumonia, and FTT
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4–5 (days/evenings), 1:6 (nights), with possible 1:7 if short-staffed
• Nurse aides available: 1:7–9 (days/evenings), up to 1:14 (overnight)
• RNs are required to titrate drips, including insulin, heparin, Cardizem, nitro, amiodarone, and octreotide; blood transfusion management also required
• Centralized tele techs monitor and read strips — RNs are expected to be tele-aware but are not required to independently read strips
• Respiratory therapy is available in-house 24/7, covering multiple units; equipment may include continuous CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow O2
• Charge nurse and house supervisor present on all shifts; travelers may be asked to step into a charge role, particularly on nights
• Night shift: 7p–7:30a (19:00–07:30), 12-hour shifts
• Every other weekend required (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Holiday coverage required: 2 out of 3 winter holidays, every other holiday at other times
• No call or standby requirements
• Travelers are first to float within med/surg units; floating outside med/surg is limited to observation or tasking needs, done in 4-hour increments
• Charting system: Cerner (transitioning to Epic)
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active WI or compact RN license required by start date
• Current BLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 1 year of acute care RN experience required
• Experience with drip titration required
• Comfort managing complex patients required
• Prior travel nursing experience preferred
• No oncology or chemotherapy experience required

Additional Information

• Orientation consists of 1 day of computer/CBT/regulatory training plus one 12-hour floor shift
• Scheduling is managed by a scheduler, but the facility will work with travelers on scheduling requests; block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
• Duo/paired traveler placements are accepted, but same shifts cannot be guaranteed
• Candidates who previously worked for this health system as permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their application date
• Two professional references are required for consideration: one from a supervisor within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and one from a peer or supervisor within the last 3 years of relevant experience
• Candidates living within 80 miles of the facility are considered local and may be subject to a different pay rate
• Scrubs: any color accepted; scrubs with another health system's logo are not permitted
• All clinicians are required to clock in and out at the facility
