Phlebotomist

Contract phlebotomy position with potential to become permanent. Schedule: 7:30 am – 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday. Projected duration: 3 months with potential to transition to permanent. Summary The primary function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot, train and make workflow recommendations. Position Responsibilities Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data and decontamination, update patient information. Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection procedures (e.g., urine or fecal) to patients courteously and clearly. Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Interpret physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. Verify test requisitions or computer labels against script to ensure 100% correctness. Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature in appropriate containers. Follow OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings. Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Minimum Qualifications Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment. Minimum of 6 months experience performing venipunctures in a fast‑paced laboratory or hospital setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. High school diploma or GED. Experience performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information.
