Roles and Responsibilities

• Prepare operating rooms, surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies for scheduled procedures
• Set up and maintain the sterile field according to established surgical protocols
• Assist surgeons and surgical assistants by passing instruments, supplies, and equipment efficiently
• Anticipate the needs of the surgical team throughout procedures
• Assist with patient positioning, skin preparation, draping, and other pre-operative activities
• Perform accurate counts of instruments, sponges, needles, and other surgical items
• Handle and prepare surgical specimens according to facility policies
• Assist with operating room turnover and prepare the room for subsequent procedures
• Inspect surgical instruments and equipment for cleanliness, functionality, and readiness
• Maintain sterile technique and immediately report or address breaks in sterility
• Assist with cleaning and appropriate handling of surgical equipment after procedures
• Maintain accurate documentation related to procedures, supplies, and equipment
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, registered nurses, anesthesia professionals, and other perioperative staff
• Follow infection prevention, patient safety, OSHA, HIPAA, and facility policies
• Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient operating room environment

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program
• Minimum 2 years of recent Surgical Technologist experience
• Current CST certification required by facility
• Current BLS Certification required
• Strong knowledge of surgical instruments, sterile technique, surgical procedures, and infection prevention
• Experience supporting multiple surgical specialties preferred
• Familiarity with operating room equipment and surgical technologies
• Excellent attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to remain calm and focused in a fast-paced OR environment
• Strong ability to anticipate surgical team needs
