Packaging Technician – 2nd Shift

Sigma Systems is currently seeking a Packaging Technician for a 6-month contract opportunity in Athens, GA. This is an onsite 2nd shift position working from 2:30 PM – 11:00 PM, 40 hrs per week.

This position is ideal for candidates with experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing, vaccine packaging, medical device manufacturing, production operations, GMP environments, equipment operation, and quality inspection. The Packaging Technician will support vaccine packaging operations by operating machinery, inspecting products, completing GMP documentation, troubleshooting equipment, and ensuring production goals are achieved safely and efficiently.

Job Summary

The Packaging Technician performs manufacturing activities related to the labeling, inspection, and packaging of vaccines and finished products. This role requires operating automated packaging equipment, following cGMP guidelines, completing production documentation, performing equipment changeovers, and maintaining a safe and organized manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, quality-focused, and experienced working in a regulated manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate packaging equipment including:
• Labelers
• Pick-and-place systems
• Heat tunnels
• Vision inspection systems
• Other automated packaging equipment
• Label, inspect, and package finished vaccine products according to quality standards.
• Monitor production processes to ensure target line rates and manufacturing goals are achieved.
• Perform equipment setup, changeovers, and adjustments as required.
• Perform initial troubleshooting of packaging equipment issues.
• Follow cGMP documentation requirements and ensure batch records are completed accurately.
• Read, understand, and comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Perform QA line clearances and ensure production areas meet quality requirements.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe manufacturing environment.
• Maintain equipment and facilities according to established procedures.
• Complete batch tickets and document materials used during production.
• Monitor processes against manufacturing records, data capture forms, and SOPs.
• Participate in daily performance reviews and team meetings.
• Communicate production progress, process issues, inventory needs, and safety concerns to Shift Line Leaders and Supervisors.
• Escalate process deviations or equipment issues appropriately.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and provide feedback on process improvements.
• Cross-train in other department functions as needed.

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Associate degree preferred or equivalent manufacturing experience.
• 2–3 years of manufacturing experience required.
• Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, vaccine, medical device, or regulated manufacturing preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience troubleshooting manufacturing equipment and processes.
• Basic math and computer skills.
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
• Ability to follow written procedures and maintain accurate documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of related manufacturing experience preferred.
• Forklift certification preferred.
• Experience working in a cGMP/FDA-regulated environment.
• Experience with packaging lines, automated equipment, and batch documentation.
