Project Manager - Heavy Civil Construction

An established civil contractor with a long history of delivering public, private and emergency construction projects across Northern California is looking to add an experienced Project Manager to its team. This is an opportunity for a Project Manager with a strong heavy civil background who enjoys taking ownership of projects from pre-construction through completion. You’ll work closely with estimators, superintendents, foremen, subcontractors, suppliers and clients to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and profitably. The work covers a broad range of civil infrastructure, including grading, paving, underground utilities, pipelines, fresh water and transportation projects. This Position Would Suit Someone Who Has built their career in heavy civil construction and is ready to take full ownership of project delivery rather than focusing solely on one aspect of construction. You may currently be working as a Project Manager, Senior Project Engineer or similar position and have experience managing civil projects involving public works, transportation, utilities, grading, paving or underground construction. The key is someone who understands what happens in the field, can manage the commercial side of a project, and can bring office and field teams together to deliver successful projects. The Role You’ll take overall responsibility for the successful delivery of assigned heavy civil projects, coordinating the commercial, operational and administrative aspects of each project. This will include: Managing projects from handover and pre-construction through to closeout Working closely with Superintendents and Foremen to coordinate field operations Developing and maintaining project schedules and tracking progress against key milestones Managing project budgets, costs, forecasts and financial performance Reviewing project plans, specifications, contracts and scopes to identify requirements and potential issues Coordinating subcontractors, suppliers, vendors and internal crews Managing RFIs, submittals, change orders, extra work and other project documentation Reviewing subcontractor and supplier invoices and ensuring costs are accurately captured Working with the estimating team during project handover to ensure scope, budget and expectations are clearly understood Identifying potential risks, scope gaps and opportunities before they impact the project Supporting procurement and ensuring materials and resources are available when required Maintaining regular communication with owners, engineers, inspectors and other project stakeholders Attending pre-construction, progress and project meetings Resolving project issues and coordinating solutions between office and field teams Ensuring projects are delivered in accordance with contract requirements, quality standards and safety expectations Managing project closeout, final documentation and turnover You’ll Get to Expand Your Experience In Major public works and civil infrastructure projects Transportation and roadway construction Asphalt paving, grading and earthwork Underground pipeline and utility construction Fresh water infrastructure Self-performed heavy civil construction Working directly with field leadership to improve productivity and project performance Developing strong relationships with owners, agencies, subcontractors and suppliers Managing the commercial and operational performance of multiple projects Taking greater ownership of complex civil projects from start to finish What We’re Looking For Proven experience as a Project Manager within heavy civil, general engineering or infrastructure construction Experience delivering public works or infrastructure projects Strong understanding of civil construction means, methods and sequencing Experience with areas such as grading, paving, earthwork, underground utilities, pipelines, water or transportation construction Strong understanding of project budgets, cost control, scheduling and forecasting Experience managing subcontractors, suppliers and self-perform crews Ability to read and interpret civil plans, specifications and contract documents Strong understanding of change orders, extra work, RFIs, submittals and project documentation Strong communication and leadership skills Ability to build effective working relationships with field teams, clients and project stakeholders Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities A proactive approach to identifying and resolving project issues Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as required #J-18808-Ljbffr
