- Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association preferred
- Advanced degree or training preferred
- Outpatient care experience preferred
- Hand therapy and splinting experience preferred
- Ability to evaluate and provide care across the age continuum
Description:
This position is responsible for providing occupational therapy services to outpatient populations.
This includes assessment, treatment, and care as well as participating in educational instruction with patients and their families.
The Occupational Therapist must be competent in interpreting a patient's self-report, behavior, and understanding the cognitive, physical, emotional, and developmental needs of patients.
Treatment should be individualized and should reflect an understanding of the developmental needs and range of treatment for each patient.
This position will provide the unique opportunity to manage a robust elbow/wrist/hand program that has significantly grown due to good referral support from providers.
There will be mentorship opportunities with current providers who have extensive experience in developing hand therapy programs.
Essential functions include obtaining thorough patient, medical, and social history as well as current status information.
Evaluating each patient as directed by the ordering physician and developing patient care plans is critical.
Administer treatments to patients with physical disabilities resulting from injury, disease, or surgery.
Re-evaluate and assess patient status and initiate changes in treatment programs as needed.
Administer therapeutic treatments utilizing physical agents, biomechanical, and neurophysiological principles to relieve pain, restore function, and prevent disability.
Document all pertinent information in the electronic medical record and educate patients regarding treatment plans and procedures.
Complete daily billing procedures for services provided.
Understand and apply techniques such as heat, electricity, water, massage, and exercise.
Maintain documentation that includes evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
Provide direction to all assisting support staff for occupational therapy patient care.
Efficiently organize the daily workload and monitor time management.
Monitor the safety and effectiveness of all patient care equipment and the work environment.
Immediately report any deficiencies to the Director.
Physical requirements include occasional standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, and physical activity.
Manual dexterity and good reading eyesight are necessary for assessment data and documentation.
Keen mental faculties are essential for assessment and decision-making in patient management.
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are required for accurate information exchange with healthcare professionals and the public.
