Operating under the general supervision of the Grounds Foreperson, this employee is part of a team responsible for all the grounds maintenance, troubleshooting, and landscaping projects throughout the District. Employee may be assigned stand‑alone projects such as maintenance and mowing projects but also often works with teams on larger projects. Annual projects such as assisting with graduation logistics, wrestling tournament needs and other seasonal responsibilities are an integral part of this position. Employee works to ensure the district's grounds services meet established standards efficiently and effectively following a high expectation for professionalism.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Grounds Department workers perform a variety of duties including maintenance, repair, and assist special events in support of 40+ facilities throughout School District 51. Each grounds worker is assigned an area covering approximately 15–20 facilities grouped geographically within the District. The work foreman assigns responsibilities and monitors the electronic work order system for any Grounds related requests. Daily duties and tasks include routine activities such as dumping outdoor trash receptacles (55 gallon drums) located at entrances, exits, athletic practice areas, parking lots, etc.; trash and litter pick‑up are a continuous responsibility addressed by the employee as encountered or needed. A large part of daily duties involves performing all the needed activities to maintain properties' appearance, health, and esthetic appeal. Routine landscaping responsibilities include any mix of mowing, trimming, weeding, and edging. Employees also aerate, fertilize, top‑dress, patch, and lay sod as needed, especially on athletic fields. Other regular duties are performed throughout the year including assisting with irrigation repairs, especially sprinkler head replacements, and may require a nominal amount of hand shovelling or digging. Grounds workers will work with the Pesticide Specialist to remove nesting insects such as wasps or bees. Monthly inspections of property fence lines and gates are conducted, completing necessary minor repairs, especially for gate hinges. Employees also collaborate with Irrigation Specialists and Heavy Equipment Operators on larger specialized projects. The District’s athletic and outdoor activity spaces are maintained by grounds workers. They are responsible for the long‑term health and availability of softball, soccer, baseball, track and field, and football fields. Workers perform regular maintenance and repairs to offset the heavy use. They must understand each sport’s requirements and provide specialized mowing and field maintenance accordingly. Seasonal responsibilities include safely trimming various trees using chainsaws, trimmers, and stump grinders, and using bucket trucks for taller trees. They also conduct annual leaf removal, winterize irrigation systems, perform pressurised line blowouts, irrigation pump maintenance, snow removal, plowing parking lots, and assist with entrances during limited hand‑shovelling tasks. Annual back‑flow testing and ditch/canal maintenance are done as required inside or outside city limits. Grounds employees support several special or annual events such as high‑school graduation activities, staging, audio/visual equipment set‑ups, and cleaning/remediation. They also assist with wrestling tournaments, delivering mats and managing storage, and respond to unforeseen issues during events. They interact with students, staff, administrators, volunteers, and guests professionally. Perform other duties as assigned.EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent required. Preference for prior school district, grounds or landscaping experience. Acceptable education and experience credit equivalent will be at the sole discretion of the District. LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS Criminal background check required for hire. Valid Colorado driver's license required for hire. District small vehicle permit required within 30 days of hire. Submit a current Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and meet Colorado School Districts Self Insurance Pool (CSDSIP) insurability standards at the time of hire and throughout employment. Must successfully pass a 50# lifting test upon hire (recertification every three years). Attend and successfully complete all professional development training as required by law or directed by Supervisor.MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE
Operating knowledge and experience with personal computers and peripherals. Operating knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office; Google‑Suite preferred. Operating knowledge and experience with equipment including chainsaws, trimmers, weed eaters, and edgers. Preference for ability to operate front‑end loader, skid‑steer, forklift, dump truck, and other heavy equipment.TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

This position supports District personnel in understanding and abiding by legal and ethical boundaries as outlined in: Hazardous Waste Rules and Regulations Governing Schools In The State Of Colorado (6CCR 1010-6).
