Job Description Job Description Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) – PRN Nexus Neurorecovery Center – Conroe Schedule: PRN About Nexus Neurorecovery Center – Conroe Our Conroe Neurorecovery inpatient rehab provides interdisciplinary, patient-centered care, focused on improving functional independence and quality of life for patients with neurological injuries and complex diagnoses. The program at Conroe focuses on neurological rehabilitation, functional skill development , and stability in a structured, assisted-living rehab environment. Our interdisciplinary team works closely with residents and their families to promote independence, safety, and long-term progress through individualized treatment plans, therapeutic programming, and evidence-based care. We serve individuals with traumatic brain injuries , strokes , spinal cord injuries , and complex neurological conditions, who require ongoing rehabilitation and support to improve quality of life and daily functioning. Position Summary The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) provides direct therapeutic support to patients with neurological, developmental, and medically complex conditions. Working under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist, the COTA assists with implementing treatment plans, facilitating therapeutic activities, and supporting functional independence. This role requires consistency, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work with patients who may have cognitive, neurological, behavioral, or complex medical conditions in a structured rehabilitation environment. Key Responsibilities Implement occupational therapy interventions under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist Assist with therapeutic activities focused on daily living skills, mobility, and functional independence Support patients with neurologic, developmental, or medically complex conditions Monitor patient response to treatment and report progress to supervising therapist Assist with adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and therapeutic exercises Collaborate with physical therapy, speech therapy, psychology, nursing, and medical staff Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record Follow Nexus policies, HIPAA standards, and safety procedures Use approved de-escalation techniques when needed to maintain safety Support a structured, therapeutic environment that promotes patient progress Qualifications Active COTA license in the State of Texas required NBCOT certification required CPR / BLS Certification – required De-escalation training – required within 30 days of hire An Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program required Experience working with neurologic, rehabilitation, or medically complex patients preferred Hospital, inpatient, or rehabilitation experience strongly preferred Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary clinical team Compassionate, patient-centered approach to care Our Core Values: GOPTIC At Nexus, GOPTIC is more than a slogan—it’s the foundation of how we care for patients and families!
