Wastewater Surveillance Senior Epidemiologist (DOH/CHP #10112751)

Posting Details Salary: $36.43 - $54.65 hourly ($75,775 - $113,663 annually). This position is Pay Band C10. This posting will be used for ongoing recruitment and may close at any time. Applicant list may be screened more than once. Mission The New Mexico Department of Health’s mission is to ensure health equity and improve health outcomes for all people in New Mexico. Department & Program This position operates within the Wastewater Surveillance (WWS) Program of the Environmental Health Epidemiology Bureau (EHEB), Center for Health Protection (CHP), Public Health Division (PHD) in NM Health. Position Overview The primary purpose of the job is to work with water treatment facilities, the Scientific Laboratory, and the CDC to maintain and grow NMDOH’s wastewater surveillance system, monitoring for various infectious disease pathogens. The wastewater epidemiologist will work with the wastewater surveillance program supervisor and epidemiologist specialist to identify trends in wastewater data, update the CDC and NMDOH data dashboards, and communicate results with state and national stakeholders for public health action. Key Responsibilities Communicate with wastewater treatment facility operators for maintenance of sampling. Analyze data received from the state laboratory. Report and disseminate information to the CDC and state and local stakeholders. Staff the EHEB on call line 1‑2 days per month and participate in legislative bill analysis during the NM legislative session. Ideal Candidate Experience conducting laboratory or epidemiological surveillance for reportable conditions. Experience with data analysis programs, R preferred. Experience presenting public health data to stakeholders. Minimum Qualifications Master’s Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Science, Social Sciences or Statistics. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education. Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
